The Bathroom Break Loophole that Broke Professional Tennis

Most would argue that in today’s day and age, as far as professional tennis is concerned, any possible attempt by a player to game the system or exploit loopholes would be futile, there’s a rule for everything… or so we thought. Enter 2021: The year of Toiletgate.

The cameraman showing Apostolos texting after we saw Zverev accusing Stefanos having a cellphone in the comfort room has to be peak non-tennis camera work — the commentators even laughed at its absurdity with some exasperated expression.

You should do a vid on this whole Sinner/PTPA lawsuit saga, once the dust has settled

It was getting really ridiculous back in 2021. Glad it's kinda different nowadays.

Legendary editing as usual, brother!

I was at this match and I literally said to my Dad, “Is there some new rule I’m not familiar with where they can take 15 min breaks between sets?” 🤷‍♂️

It was extremely ridiculous post-2021. Can't believe this was not fixed immediately

Maybe I'm just slow, but three minutes is BARELY enough time to do a #1 once entering the bathroom and an absurdly short amount to do a #2. I'd guesstimate it takes me at least 10 minutes for the latter and sometimes longer if I'm having "issues".

So, what's a player to do if he suddenly has to do a #2 in the middle of a match?

i'd actually like to see you do a video about how rafa messed with peoples services and how umps would change when they started the serve clock in rafa's serve consistently for his whole carreer

haven't played in 15 years and still think tennis has some of the best interpersonal drama of any sport

Basketball players get a full halftime break in the locker room after only 20 minutes of playing so why shouldn’t tennis players get a bathroom break after playing almost an hour per set? Tennis players should be penalized for overstaying in the bathroom but should be allowed toilet breaks as per the rules.

I think they should just allow breaks without the term "toilet" or similars attached to them.
Like you get 6 mins, you can use them for whatever (still be supervised tho).
I mean in every other sport it's commonly accepted that you use time outs to disrupt your opponent's momentum a little bit

its so funny because this is such an ingrained thing this was happening to me in the juniors when i was 12

Stefanos basically copied what njvak did in that RG final. Taking an extended toilet break to disrupt the opponents rhythm. Novak's been doing that and tactical fake mto's his entire career.
