It's actually possible to use the anti-air deathblow on him when he's in the air after firing his beam. Managed to do it on the one in the fountainhead palace.

Lilac umbrella is legit hard counter to this guy. You take zero damage include zero poise damage from his spirit attacks. And if you have the special shinobi move for it you can charge up your umbrella an do massive damage. Becomes actual unexagerated snorefest with lilac umbrella.

Don’t even worry about divine confetti, just wait til you get the Phoenix lilac upgrade for the umbrella prosthetic, makes this fight a cake walk, you literally take zero damage from the projectiles and can hold out the umbrella forever during each use, trust me you’ll be laughing if you try it this way lol

I never tried blocking or parrying his laser beam, because, quite frankly it doesn't make any sense.

The huge death ray is still going through you, but because you raised your sword at the right moment it doesn't affect you...

Learn anti-air deathblow, instakill him when he floats to shoot projectiles. It even gives you a tutorial about it when the fight starts if you have the skill learned

i kinda dont want to waste my devine confetti just yet so im trying without.
Im afraid that if i'll use it and won't pull it off, ill no confetti left and ill have to take the boss without it

The lilac umbrella for blocking his attacks and the Malcontent finger whistle for stunning him are both very useful in this fight. Definitely not necessary but they help a lot

Shichimen Warrior made even simpler: Wait till he flies out in the air, jump towards him and you'll see the red dot indicating a deathblow, press R1 and there goes an entire life bar.

Don't forget you learned the anti-air deathblow technique which works against any regular enemy and mini-bosses.

Anti-air Deathblow works well for this guy and the Voulge users in Senpou TempleThe Tanto is useful if you have the Breath of Life upgrades(Light from the skill tree and Shadow from beating O'Rin).

Mid air death blow absolutely makes this fight easy. Anyone stuck with this fight, get that and it will be alot easier.

You can just use the Lilac Umbrella— you get to block everything he shoots for free— like, no buildup of any kind. And when you’re close you can use the Umbrella attack to completely devastate his health/posture. The attack hurts more than a normal slash with Divine Confetti

Divine confetti has a Chance to drop from Blue Samurai near the Upper Tower - Antechamber Sculptor's Idol located in Ashina Castle. It says this on the wiki...hope it helps
