As we are taught in basic art classes, one extreme is boring uniformity, the other extreme is chaos. The charm of the cottege garden is of course it's seeming unmanaged look, natural, but the main fascination is the pleasing balance between boredom and chaos. Thank you for sharing!

Here are a couple more tips: Make sure the plants are safe for your pets! No lilies around cats, for instance. And self-propogating plants are nice for filling in areas without much maintenance. Pay attention to the heights different plants are expected to grow when you're planning the locations so you can play around with the visual flow of everything.
