A fun fact of soap video is that Melanie's music company didn't want to record the MV for "Soap" so Melanie grabbed an old camera and made a homemade MV of the song, that homemade MV can be seen on the TV in the bathroom in the Soap MV

Dollhouse is actually Melanie's debut music video and one of her most watched music videos. Carousel is the second video to be released. However, the storyline order is the album order, which is the one you are watching. Although Dollhouse is chronologically subsequent to Crybaby, crybaby's music video was built upon what was introduced in Dollhouse, kind of like making an origin story. So I think she did a great job with these music videos.

It's funny when you mentioned her hair being part of her brand cause Mel was inspired by Cruella and when she first did her hair like that her real mom hated it and went some time without speaking to her. I don't think we know a lot about Melanie's family but she said that she was bullied a lot in school and she was called a crybaby because when people bullied her she would just cry, so that's what inspired the name. She also said that the things that happen to Crybaby are inspired by what some of what her and her friends went trough growing up.

8:45 the bunny wasn’t actually supposed to be there, it’s Melanie’s bunnie, and it just hopped on set, they didn’t wanna take him off so they just kept him there. Also, sippy cup is a representation of “what goes down in the kitchen” that is a line from dollhouse, alphabet boy was crybaby thinking her mothers actions were good, so she wanted to do them.

( a lot people explained this to u already but heres my explanation so u can get a deeper look + understanding into crybaby's life with more detail) in case u dont know Melanie Martinez has a character who she portrays in her music called "crybaby" crybaby is this girl who goes through a lot of bad stuff in her life. all of melanie's albums connect to tell crybaby's story. she's also releasing an album called "portals" on march 31st. she also has a film called "K-12" which is about the character attending school.

crybaby is the song that's an into to her life.

The dollhouse song is crybaby explaining how her parents want her and her brother to act perfect and come off as the most perfect family even though deep down the family is a mess as you know. there's a line in the song that says "don't let them see what goes down in the kitchen" which moves onto the next track called "Sippy cup".

In sippy cup crybaby explains and shows a deeper side of what goes down in her kitchen plus you know her mother took the dad and his mistress out lol. at the end of the video the mother gives crybaby a sleeping medicine so she'll forget what she just saw, crybaby didn't die, also the look where she has angel wings means her innocent died.

In Carousel crybaby is chasing after a boy (it doesn't really fit in the storyline but yeah)

Alphabet boy is about the guy in the carousel video. the song is pretty self explanatory, it's a break up song.

In soap, crybaby has a crush on a boy Johnny and the song is just about being vulnerable and being afraid to express deeper feelings such as love.

training wheels is a metaphor for her wanting to get serious, insisting that she can help relinquish his fear of commitment. He can call her out on her flaws, yet it proves he's invested in a way that implies they're ready to move things further. it's also the only true love song on the album

(spoiler alert ahead for the rest of the story, read if u want)

Pity party is about loneliness. crybaby throws a birthday party and no one shows up which leads her into destroying her cake, stuffed animals and decor.

In tag you're it crybaby gets kidnapped by the big bad wolf. in the beginning of the music video you will see crybaby throwing the decorations from the pity party music video into the trash can. which indicates the party just ended. the big bad wolf is disguised as an ice cream man aswell. while crybaby was headed to a grocery store the big bad wolf was following her in his ice cream truck. when she gets into the store she gets her stuff and heads to the check out when the cashier hands her a little bottle of blue poison. (the cashier knew crybaby was in danger) the woman who plays the cashier (emma harvey) also has a new role in Melanie's movie (k-12) she also appears in the mad hatter music video. but back to the story, when crybaby heads outside the store the wolf is waiting for her. crybaby was super vulnerable so she accepted the ice cream the wolf offered her. she ate the ice cream then passed out. the wolf then picks her up from the ground, carries her into his van, then brings her to his home. (a lot of people assume this song is too about assault but Melanie cleared it up and revealed it's only about kidnapping.)

in milk and cookies, the wolf forces her to bake him milk and cookies under a time limit. he watches her through a TV. while crybaby is making them she realises she had that poison the cashier gave her. suddenly the wolf's phone rings and he turned away from the tv which gave crybaby her chance to add the poison. (in the video you will obviously see crybaby panicking making cookies but you'll also see a girl sitting with her head sticking out of a table. she is crybaby's alter ego called (Melatonin). melatonin looks more chill and confident knowing everything will be okay for crybaby. Crybaby finishes the cookies just before she runs out of the time. the wolf eats the cookies and passed out. crybaby then pours milk on him while beating him up (lol) then she escapes. (nobody knows if the wolf died or not since in the beginning of another melanie music video called "the bakery" ( from her EP called "after school" he drives by.

In pacify her crybaby has a crush on a boy called "blue boy" but he's in love with another girl. crybaby begs for his attention and she finally gets it. they are about to kiss when suddenly the other girl reveals her chest which makes blue boy want her instead. so blue boy ends up with the other girl. it's also a metaphor. the other girl is a version of crybaby he made up in his head. crybaby wants him to fall in love with the real her, but he just wants his made up version of her.

In Mr's potato head crybaby became insecure. while watching TV there was an ad convincing the audience to take pills that help lose weight and that girls should by blonde wigs and get plastic surgery. crybaby had bought a blonde wing plus those pills and quickly goes to her bathroom to put the wig on, take pills, stuff tissues in her bra and put on lipstick. she looks in the mirror then starts to cry. she then goes back to the living room and changes the tv channel which leads her to watching a movie about a woman who's husband forced her to get plastic surgery. the woman got it and her husband didn't like the final result so he cheated on her. crybaby then realised she's perfect the way she is.

In Mad hatter, crybaby finally accepts herself for who she is. she knows she's crazy and doesn't care.

I remember in 2021 finding a performance on The Voice and I went down this rabbit hole. Melanie has been so overwhelming!!!! The baby/child aesthetic, the lyrics, the storyline, the fact that EVERY song from the CRYBABY album had a music video, I was so impressed. Then on top of does a film for K-12. She is so unique and SOOO different in the music industry. I wish she gained a lot more popularity. So excited to see this new chapter with Portals.

the reason why dollhouse looks less high budget-y than cry baby is bc the song is from her debut ep "Dollhouse" which works as a prequel to the Cry Baby album, though the ep is more to introduce melanie's artistic persona to the public and follows the cry baby lore rather loosely. For the dollhouse video she was just recently picked by the label, and they were pretty much testing waters first, and once she had gathered attention the album came, and so did the budget, and the imagery just got even more incredible. you should check the video for "death" which she released just recently. it really is one of her best productions yet

If you didn’t know, the part where Melanie is an angel in Sippy Cup, it symbolized her innocence dying when she saw her dad’s corpse.
