A huge set of Xbox Layoffs for 2024 have been announced as part of a 1900 Microsoft layoff plan that will impact Xbox, Activision Blizzard, and Bethesda. There were many impacted by this Xbox news today and the Xbox 2024 news is not particularly inspiring to start the year. The Xbox and Activision Blizzard Layoffs Announced today will impact 8% of the overall gaming division at Xbox.

Previously, in 2023 I wrote" Xbox layoffs that have impacted various teams across the board. In a company-wide email to staff, Phil Spencer sent out a note to those still there about Microsoft's decision to cut 5% of their workforce and lay off 10,000 employees. This comes exactly one year after the Activision Blizzard deal was announced leaving many wondering what will happen as that deal continues. So far 343 Industries, The Coalition, and the Bethesda Starfield team have been impacted with more layoffs expected through Q3 2023."

This happens every time there's a big merger like this

MS gained over 17, 000 employees with the ABK acquisition, Layoffs was imminent. Hopefully the people affected recover quickly.

Man, I really feel for these people. I'm out of work myself and the last 2 jobs I lost were due to M&A and the overlap that was caused by that. It really sucks.

No matter what anyone says, in huge buyouts, this is always the bad part of it as you will have a lot of redundant jobs that are no longer needed (among other things). Every company has budgets that need to be met, it sucks, but it's the nature of the beast. I hope everyone lands on their feet.

Ps2 generation was a boom in gaming but this industry hit a peak and now at a plateau. Companies are playing it safe. The industry is shifting and consolidating.

Unfortunate that a lot of layoffs are happening at game companies these days.

The gaming industry is so crazy now. It seems like every employee is just one failed game away from being laid off.

The non-gaming software company I work for went through this down sizing about a year ago after a large aquisition- 8% reduction in force. Difference for my company is it was a 3 month process so people for 3 months had to worry about who were going to be let go. I saw some really long timers (+20 years of work history with this company) be let go from my office. It is sad as it starts making many who avoided the cut list constantly wonder if they are going to be on the cut list the next time when you see this happen over and over. I feel bad for those that were let go and for those that will be have to worry if the will be next. I hope those that are let go find other opportunities quickly!

IGN will have layoffs too, don't say I didn't warn you

Real people with family to support will be affected by this, but this will just be another bullet in the "console wars".

It’s expected with mergers… there’s a lot of overlap…

Microsoft is going to reorganize/shut down the Xbox division and put out a cheap streaming box with the Gamepass logo on it. Much more layoffs are coming to Xbox.

Working for a large tech company for the last 28 yrs, this is how they do it Destin, especially the companies addicted to workforce reductions that do them over and over again. It’s sucks this is happening but man it’s nothing new. It’s how Silicon Valley rolls and they’ve been like this for decades now. The work council language is there because in other countries workers are more protected than in the US, which is why US employees always take the brunt of the layoffs.

Layoffs always happen after buyouts or mergers.

Now you know why Nintendo laughed Microsoft out of the room when Microsoft asked to acquire them. I'm sure the Nintendo execs at the time were thinking, "Why are you asking us to put a gun to our heads and pull the trigger"?

Turns out you CAN have trillions and still lay staff off. No doubt they'll announce record profits to soften the blow...

This is happening in pretty much every industry. Costs have skyrocketed and it’s their answer to cut costs for the short term.

My costs have doubled to tripled since 2019 but my rate I charge is stuck at prior 2019 levels. We are in a recession, Wall Street just won’t admit it due to inflation of certain industries making up for everyone else’s losses.

I was made redundant after a big company merger back in the day. It's to be expected with any merger, especially when they're this big. Hopefully everyone affected lands on their feet, and goes on to bigger and better things.

Unfortunately when you have acquisitions like this, redundancy comes into play and layoffs happen. It's a sad truth of today's world

The entire game industry is getting hit with layoffs since last year
