The Half-Life: X Mystery - What the Hell is Valve Making?

Valve has been quietly working on a few software projects, including three games using the Source 2 engine. The CS:GO Source 2 port, Citadel, and the unknown entity codenamed HLX. Let's talk about HLX, and what I think it is, based on the information and data mines I have been able to find.

Clearly, the X is the roman numeral for 10. Perhaps Valve has been writing all their numbers in base 3 this whole time.

Or they're just skipping 3 because of all the overhype. And Winamp and .NET Core both skipped 4 so they don't want to be outdone there, so they're skipping straight to 10.

I’m surprised at the longevity of the playability of half life Alyx, we could only conclude it was actually at the level of half life 1 and 2 with time, and now I do believe it stands alongside them in excellence, I still l walk in front of the northern star in wonder, I still feel immersed when I go through the empty destroyed apartments, it still feels like a world lived in… but I would really appreciate if we got more, the quality of Alyx is too big to be left as it is, bring on the episodes/expansions…

Each major Half Life game has had multiple spin off games in the events concurrent or directly after the original title.

HL1 had Blue Shift, Decay, etc. HL2 had the episodes and lost coast..

It'd make sense Alyx would have something

I think Barney as a double agent could work as a smaller game. Maybe just an expansion, like with blue shift. I wouldn't want too many resources focused on making it THE next HL game. It's a novel idea, but not next gen.

Theory/Conspiracy; Steam employees make their own HL:3+ variants of games using assets from current projects. They make and play them internally but given they don't have the blessing to make the game, they just share and play them internally among one another. The public sees scraps from these, salivating and hoping, all while internal employees just extinguish their own desires.

I honestly want more vr titles from Valve, what they did with HLA was amazing. It's the only game where i felt trully immersed, exploring the city, fighting the combine with the fun arsenal of weapons provided. Now my quest 2 feels incomplete, after alyx, every VR game just feels incomplete.

On melee and stealth - melee (as revealed by Valve themselves) was worked on for Alyx but in the end was removed, which could explain why melee-related strings exist in the first place. As for stealth, those mechanics do exist within shipped Half-Life: Alyx - you can designate combine NPCs to use a “VR Stealth” mode where a player can peek there head around walls without immediately being detected by the NPC. Hopefully this clears some things up?

Tyler I just wanted to say - I liked how you quickly re explained what the leak that gave us the info was and why it mattered. I think that is a really good practice to get into because that would make it massively easier to understand when people find that report as your first video about Valve leaks.

What is there to speculate? Half-Life Alyx literally changed the ending of Episode 2 and confirms HL3. It sets you up for HL3. The only reason they changed that ending is to line up with the new direction of HL3. It is coming. That is exactly and precisely what Valve is working on. Think about it.. In Episode 1 and Episode 2 you basically have Alyx as a companion most of the time and that is the obvious way Episode 3 would go with Gordon and Alyx traveling together. With the shift to VR, you can imagine how problematic this could become and challenging to develop. HL3 is a VR game and having a companion would be complicated. With the new ending, Gordon is again by himself and now you will have Eli on the radio.

I do want more Half-life expansions like how HL1 did them. That seems to be the case here and hopefully it actually happens. I just want more Half-life content for the love of god

I think Half life VR with Barney would be awesome, so much potential with his type of character if u look at what blue shift tried to do with its atmosphere. I hope at least part of it is just few years after 7 hour war and shows how the resistance started out and how Barney was involved in the beginning. 20 years we know so little about.

With Gordon out of the hands of the G-Man, it might be an excuse to recall another person that he had stashed away back in 1999, Adrian Shepard.
I mean really, his fate was purposefully left ambiguous so Valve could just pull him out of nowhere at any time, and if anything, people have been asking for his return a lot.
