With the Karnataka Assembly elections around the corner, major political parties in the state, including the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular), have started ramping up their campaign. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai launched his election campaign in Bengaluru on Sunday. The BJP leader kickstarted his poll campaign after garlanding the statue of Basaveshwara, the 12th-century social reformer. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit to the poll-bound state, is set to interact with sugarcane farmers at Ramdurg in Belagavi district and later address a public rally in Haveri district. Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s ‘corrupt Lingayat CM ' jibe at Bommai has sparked a controversy. Soon, Bommai accused him of ridiculing the entire Lingayat community, though Siddaramaiah later clarified that his comment was aimed specifically at the Chief Minister.
