Similar to the unified namespace (UNS) for best practice industry 4.0 architecture taught by Walker Reynolds at 4.0 Solutions. We use the MQTT protocol to maintain the single source of truth. Publish/Subscribe keeps the communication efficient. For taxonomy, we generally use the ISA 95 recommended hierarchy of It's great hearing your perspective this single source of Truth concept.
