Have you ever wondered how one hour on one planet may last seven years on Earth?
It's difficult to grasp, but the reason boils down to what physicists term Gravitational Time Dilation. This effect estimates the amount of time passed between two events observed by observers at varying distances from a gravitational mass. In other words, where gravity is stronger, time moves slower because gravity bends space-time.

Consider this: time follows a simple equation:
speed equal distance over time
Light (or, in this example, speed) is constantly constant and travels at 180,000 miles per second. Consider two beams of light, one moving in a mild gravitational field between locations a and b and the other in a strong gravitational field between points c and d.

Because the path between c and d is longer due to the curvature of space and time, light takes longer to travel between the two places. Several investigations have shown this effect, and it is utilised to run and maintain something that most of us use virtually every day: GPS.

Global Positioning System satellites orbit around 12,550 miles above the Earth's surface, thus they are not as near to the gravitational field of the planet. Because the clocks on these satellites tick faster than the clocks on Earth's surface, scientists have included a correction into the satellite algorithms to guarantee that the GPS data relayed back to Earth's surface has the right time. GPS satellites would not be the valuable instrument that we know them to be without this adjustment.

I guess you are now thinking that Gravitational Time Dilation will help you live longer if you decided to travel to some distant planet with a strong gravitational field?
If we Take a look at our solar system and the planet with the largest gravitational mass, Jupiter, how much longer could we expect to live relative to Earth if we were able to move there? Neil deGrasse Tyson estimated that it would take only a few minutes.
In any case, even if it were possible (and it isn't with our current technology), you would only be living longer relative to Earth. A human lifespan will remain only 70 to 100 years.

The problem is everybody is basing their measurement on physical objects. Gravity effects physical things. Time is not physical. I disagree with Einstein's Theory that Time is Relative

Isn't it that Energy and Mass shape space time? There is no gravity pulling bodies in space but rather the shape of space time drives the acceleration/curvature of space around masses and energies. The Earth isn't pulling us down it holds us up!

@0:55 GPS doesn't work because of Newtonian Gravity but rather because of General Relativity and the spacetime dilation it predicted...
