Piers Morgan clashes with socialist commentator in heated debate on Israel-Hamas war

Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan engaged in a heated debate with socialist commentator Owen Jones over the cause of the Israel-Hamas war and how it could end.

The pair clashed on whether Israel has committed genocide with its incursion into Gaza as it seeks to destroy Hamas.

“The difference between Israel and Hamas is Hamas does not have the capacity to wipe out Israel,”

Mr Morgan took aim at Mr Jones for his argument that Israel could wipe Hamas off the map if they wanted to, pointing out that “they are not doing it”.

“What they are doing, and this is indisputable, they are issuing a number of warnings repeatedly to people to go south and stay out of northern Gaza and then they are pulverising it with air strikes and now they have gone in on the ground and they are waging battle with Hamas fighters, terrorists,” he said.

Owen: It is, they're decimating civilians.
Piers: It doesn't count because Israel could kill all of them right now if they wanted to.
Owen: So could Russia to Ukraine and you call Putin genocidal.
Piers: Well thats different because Russia wants to take over Ukraine.
Owen: Well Israel wants to take over Gaza
Piers: I agree and thats bad but its still not a genocide.

Edit: I did not expect this comment to get so many replies. Unfortunately, a lot of the critics towards it keep making the same arguments, so I'm adding this to make it so new commenters don't waste both of our time.
1. Hamas doing war crimes doesn't mean we should be okay with our ally, Israel, doing war crimes.
2. All countries have a right to self defense, it does not excuse war crimes.
If you're going to make comment that Hamas is bad and Israel has right to self defense, don't bother. I agree that Hamas is bad and Israel has the right to self defense. I might add more, to this original comment, but that covers the majority of what people have been telling me.
