Master a few simple techniques to slice and dice like a chef.

Good knife skills not only save time and effort, they keep you safe as well. In this video, you'll learn how to use a kitchen knife. We'll show you how to master a few simple knife techniques to slice, dice, and chop like a chef. You'll speed up your kitchen prep work—and keep all your fingers safe in the process! You'll see three basic kitchen knives; these are the tools that every cook should have: the chef's knife for chopping and dicing; the paring knife for peeling, seeding, and trimming fat; and a long knife with a serrated edge for cutting bread and slicing tomatoes. You'll learn the most efficient way to hold a knife and learn how to guide the food safely as you're cutting. You'll learn why a sharp knife not only slices and dices better, but is actually safer to use than a dull knife. We'll show a great technique for chopping onions quickly, and learn how to make uniform dices. You'll also learn why you should wash your kitchen cutlery by hand and keep knives out of the dishwasher. We'll also touch on which cutting boards are the best and which boards will dull your knives.

Use these great techniques with our strir fry recipes @

I worked in restaurant kitchens for over 11 years as a cook/chef.
Was browsing some videos and seen this.

My opinion?
Good video for someone wanting to learn how to use a knife as a beginner in a kitchen or just trying to speed things up in their home kitchen..
(Sorry to sound like the intro of the video itself.. but it is what it is.)

Curled fingers to hold food while cutting is an important first step in learning how to articulate a knife to cut food safely.  So many people not experienced with knives and preparing food beginning to learn how to cook etc. start out just simply grasping foods the wrong way to cut them. and usually end up wounded/losing a fingertip etc.
And it was good to see the mention of a dull knife being dangerous... I tell TOO many people this and they all look at me like I'm crazy.. "How's it going to cut me if it's dull?". Yes, not only is a dull knife more prone to slip while cutting, but when a dull knife goes through something, it does not "cut".. it actually more or less tears through. (dull blade under a magnifying lens/microscope.. the blade's edge is not flat/straight. it is more like jagged/zig-zagged.)
In short, your cuts wont be as smooth/nice and if you do have an accident and cut yourself with a dull knife, it will hurt more and heal slower.

(A lot typing for a small video..)

I never like how every one of these videos only shows rock chop method, don't get me wrong, this is also how I learned how to use a knife. Worked in a Chinese kitchen in my uni days (can't rock chop with a cleaver), then I realized it's easier, faster, and safer to lift the entire knife and cut down, or do gentle tap if your knife is sharp enough

Is actually good and can be a time saver. Used in ALOT of restaurants. Heck we even use it to cut the onion. Goes super smooth

Hey buddy! Video was awesome, but I have something to recommend! When cutting anything, usually you pinch the end or so to get a grip on it. When you actually put it, you wanna cut forward, try to cut down, and bring it back to get it. If my explanation didn’t really make sense and I get it, so you could also type ‘Basic Knife Skills - Youtube’ and a handy 6 minute video should be the first pop up. Just how you cut was the only I noticed that you might hurt yourself with, so I just threw it out there. Other than that, you’re doing great and have gained a sub!

My eldest brother taught me all these when I first could hold a knife. Now, I'm more of a pro at cutting than most chefs on youtube. LOL.
