More than a million people on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu were ordered to evacuate as heavy rains continued to lash the region. Torrential downpour has soaked parts of southern Kyushu since June 28. This has threatened to trigger landslides and flooding. Rainy conditions were forecast to continue into July 4.
