"Bony Moronie" is Larry Williams' third single, which has been covered many times, including a version translated into Spanish re-named "Popotitos". Williams' original peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #4 on the U.S. R&B chart.
Among the many artists who have covered the song are John Lennon for his 1975 album, Rock 'n' Roll, The Who as a 1971 live performance included on their 1994 compilation Thirty Years of Maximum R&B, Dr. Feelgood on their 1974 album, Down by the Jetty , Johnny Winter on his 1975 album, 'Captured Live!, Julie Covington for the 1977 Amnesty International benefit show The Mermaid Frolics. In 1975 a 'single' by Australian band "Hush" achieved the number one position in their country.

Hush was a 1970s Australian glam rock pop group and became famous during frequent appearances on the ABC show Countdown for live concerts and teenagers, and they would not have come into existence without the superb John Koutts on drums.

Hush were formed, with Keith Lamb on vocals, in the Sydney suburb of Seven Hills in 1971 as a five piece band including a keyboardist. Keyboardist Chris Nolan had previously been with a band called Grandmars Observers. Hush first came to attention when they made the NSW finals of Australia's national rock band competition Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds in 1972. They first made the Australian charts in October 1973 with their own composition, "Get The Feeling". By this time they were down to the "classic" four-piece line-up of Keith Lamb (vocals), Les Gock (guitar), Rick Lum (bass) and Chris "Smiley" Pailthorpe (drums). By the time they made #1 on the charts in September 1975 with a rocked up, driving version of Larry Williams, "Bony Moronie", they were riding the wave of the glam-rock craze in Australia.

They were well placed to make an unforgettable performance on pop TV show Countdown's early colour episodes with their colourful outfits, they were one of the bands who got the gig. In 1976 they added a second guitarist, Jacques De Jongh. Rick Lum left soon after.

We saw AC/DC sherbet, skyhooks, TMG, every year in Bendigo. Hush was the best live act of them all. Les Goch doing his slow note by note build to solo was simply awesome.

Whenever I see Keith Lamb on stage I always think it would have been visually interesting if he appeared alongside Bon Scott.

The first time I met Les in person (he was a Sydney jingle writer at the time), I was shocked. He wore a suit and an open-neck shirt. I had got used to the high platform boots, pink glam rock gear and ridiculous guitars. And here he was, a conservative businessman. A really, really nice guy and we did some awesome work together.

The first time I got to know rock music (4th grade elementary school), my older brother came home from Australia in 1976, apart from bringing Deep Purple and Beatles cassettes, there was also this band, Hush.
Even though the legendary Australian band AC/DC was founded in 1973, perhaps they were still at an early age when playing music where AC/DC's vocalist was still Dave Evans (1973–1974), before being replaced by Bon Scott (1974–1980) & Brian Johnson (1980–present).

I started singing this song while driving around Buenos Aires yesterday with the family. Couldn’t remember the name of the band. I remember watching this on countdown. Memories a trying to convince my parents to let me watch the countdown. I think it used to clash with the 6 o’clock news on channel 9.

I had never heard of them, being a kiwi and all . I was at the old Bondi Lifesaver around 1977 and a couple of blokes asked if I would like to share a joint ... Well, hell yeah, as we toked they told me they loved my band, well thank you, they loved my drumming, oh thank you again young sirs ... As we nattered, it became apparent they had mistaken me for someone else ... I kept shtuum, and rejoined the throng. A few weeks later a friend took me to see this band Hush at the old Checkers . Full on Marshall stacks, a double 4 way PA in a tiny club, huge sound, and there on the tubs was Smiley Pailthorpe ... Shortarse, red hair, gap between the teeth . Suddenly it all made sense . I bought one of his old drumkits years later ... Still have them , SMILEY painted on the cases
