Not sure I would say this is like a Beatles song. You have to put it into context of the times. A lot of singles by beat groups between 1963 and 1965 were influenced by the Beatles, but for me the Kinks had there own sound and originality 😊

Now we're talking ! .. I just LOVE those very quaint, very British, early Kinks hits, such as this one and "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" .. Such great tunes, lyrics and sense of humour ! .. Nice reaction.👍

The Beatles and Kinks were around at the same time. Why does everyone assume that the Beatles weren’t influenced by other bands?

This song was 2 years before A Day In The Life was released by the Beatles.

Harri, the link to Paul McCartney is a nice catch on your part. Both Paul and Ray Davies wrote songs like this, in the Music Hall tradition (think Herman's Hermits "I'm Henry VIII I Am"). Similar to American Vaudeville. As for the subject matter, the song offers a satirical commentary on the English upper and middle classes, hinting at the hypocrisy that underlies their veneer of "respectability". Inspired by Ray's stay at a luxury resort where he had some run-ins with upper-class guests who looked down in contempt on our young working-class lad. Nice pick, Craig. Thanks Harri.

The Kinks were a fantastic band and this is one that I really like. Thanks Craig and Harri.

I believe this song is about his older sister's husband. And another song called Dedicated Follower of Fashion is about one of their managers, who were Dandies. Another one of his songs is in fact called Dandy.

It’s a song about a typical upper class British prig. That has to go about every thing just perfectly.

Ray Davies, rhythm guitarist wrote this song in 1965 and sang the lead. A great tune and just as you said it reminded you of the Beatles, I thought the drumming reminded of early Ringo's style.
Some said the song was about a holiday
at a rich resort and Ray didn't like their stuck up attitudes. Another said it was about the long hours they put in touring and how long it would take to get rich.
Just a grest early tune, very popular, great vocals and instruments especially the drums. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Craig. Great memory. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Had a distant memory of The Kinks playing in the The Cavern Club in Liverpool, and it checked out. But they were from London 😀🥰

Great request Craig. The Kinks were their own band. Ray Davies was a genius in his own right. My buddies and myself loved "Sunny Afternoon". Good reaction Harri. The Beatles were influenced by
the early American rock and roll acts like
Lil Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Buddy Holly,
etc. like most of the Mersey groups. 👍🙃

Both Ray Davies and McCartney were influenced by Music Hall but this song (released Sept 1965) definitely influenced the Beatles' Nowhere Man (Dec 1965). Davies was onto social commentary well before the Beatles. At this time, Beatles were doing Help and Day Tripper.

Thank You Sir... I have not heard this in too many years (decades) to remember.
This was at the same time as the early Beatles - good ear.

Ray always wrote facetious songs like this . like " Dedicated Follower of Fashion " .You have a London sense of humour as well . My paternal Grandfather was a Londoner . Happy Chinese New Year from Sydney .

Loved the song ❤ Brings back wonderfull memories 😊❤ The Beatles was influenced by Skiffle Music coming to Liverpool by Ships from the States 🥰 In Liverpool it was called Mercey Beat, coming from the Mersey side of Liverpool ❤ The center being the Cavern where Beatles amongst other groupes were playing 🥰 This song was translated into Danish and was a big hit as well 😊 Thanks Harri for a great reaction

Harri, It's not their dad. This is about a "Sloane Ranger" the toffs on Sloane street who were "oh so good" with their parent's money and social status. To open your mouth and speak in England then was to reveil your place in society and your future in it. This was Ray's taking the Mick out of the upper class. ( BTW have a listen to "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion" )

Working class rock for the 1960's Englishman. 20th Century Man is another good one.

Definitely not about the Davies family. It was definitely a shot at the upper class of British society. Musically, it is a little similar to the Beatles, but I think it was just what was going around at the time. But, lyrically, it is much edgier and class conscious than anything the Beatles were putting out in '65. It is a real classic.
