The saddest thing is that Luffy eventually goes on to lose so much more. He loses 20 years of his life, he loses Ace all while having none of his friends to be there for him. No one can ever question the amount Luffy goes through in OP

The way that Luffy kicks his legs and bangs his head is just so realistic

This was the first time Luffy realized that his luck was not infinite, that the faster the ascent is, the more painful the fall.
He really needed to realize that he had to make a stop on his way, because he had gone beyond his abilities and his probabilities of survival in the new world were almost zero.

This scene is so powerful. You can feel the genuine pain that’s coming from Luffy. The difference between Luffy and other captains is that he cares for his crew. He doesn’t see himself above any of them and treats them as equals. He lost his friends and didn’t know where they were going. A really amazing episode.

I still remember seeing this scene when around the time when it first aired and now seeing it again after the recent chapter...Man, we've come a long way and Kuma solidified his place as one of THE most iconic characters in all of One Piece

I love how you can tell that Kuma feels bad for Luffy. The way he pauses and looks down before repelling him too. He understands how hard this is for him.

One of my favourite things about Luffy is that despite his strength and confidence, he has his own fears that make him extremely vulnerable which for him is loosing his loved ones and being alone. In this scene that nightmare came true and this is such a real reaction. No angry power ups, no speeches, no edgy or confident dialogue about how he'll get his crew back... Just a rough panic attack.
