Ahh, the Foley catheter! The mere mention of it strikes fear in the hearts of all who have experienced its function!

Studying to be an NP a few months left, makes me hope to be as educated as Larry and this gentleman in the video one day.

In the 70's I assisted removal of Foley that had adhered to the wall of the bladder. The doctor used ether to help dissolve it for easy removal. At that time there was always some ether in surgery that was hidden away for emergency.

Welp, after wearing a PVC ( hard silicone) suprapubic catheter for 4 months straight without replacing it caused a nasty painful infection. So I bought a pack of acoustic guitar strings and used the low E'string to pop that SOB! Hahaha hey it worked like a charm. Just a few drops of blood but it stopped quickly and I was so relieved from all the unnecessary pain, thank God! The type of catheter didn't have the "Y" valve . I have a May 21st appointment with my surgeon/Urologist for my enlarged prostate 😂😂😊 Good luck my friends...cheers! 🙏

yeah, i'd go for option #1, hopefully that would do the trick. the overinflating and the guidewire look like they'd both be uncomfortable and/or painful

Let's all admit as a doctor or a nurse that atleast once in our lifetime we have freaked out when Foley's gets stuck and won't come out

I did option 1 to deflate the ballon works a treat always use this method, While was in hostpital the nurse got a syringe and sucked out the 5ml fluid that was used to inflate it but what she didn't know the doctor that put it in put 10ml of fluid in, so she thought it was deflated but it wasn't and she pulled it out which caused excruciating pain for me as you can imagine, and she said Oh that was a big one and hid it under a towel but I asked to see it and it was still inflated, so Just cut the valve of with scissors as demonstrated and stand up and let it drain out Job done this happened 2 weeks ago September 2022

Had the same problem today...Tried inflating to burst the balloon..Didn't work..The balloon wouldn't inflate..Then tried the guide wire method..Would have down around ten times..Didn't work..the guide wire wouldn't go somewhere beyond the neck of the Foley bladder ..Suctioning also didn't help..Called in the Consultant Surgeon..He came and applied traction to the Foley Cath...The Balloon was nicely wedged now..Then with a 16 cause intracath needle, puncture attempted suprapubically...PLOP...the balloon burst ..On inspection of the Foley's Balloon, No residual fragments left inside...bladder..
