No wonder we have no extraterrestrial contact, they're probably like "FUCK no, these guys are nuts..."

What Norway and Switzerland have is beeing de-facto Members of the EU without any vote to decide anything to be part of the European single market . May already said thats not what she wants for the UK and also the EU won't allow UK to keep benefits without paying their fair share for it.

It's a bit stupid that withdrawal only required a simple majority.

I was a Remainer, and still very much am, however I accept that Britain voted to leave. Even if I don't like it.

Just extra clarity that you missed. A new referendum on Scotland isn't actually clear yet: this is mostly down to the UK Govt having the ability to decide whether Scotland can have one. I doubt the UK Parliament would block a new referendum for Scotland, however the real issue is about timing: either before Brexit is completed, or after. The SNP (Scottish Nationalists) currently in power want a ref before Brexit, the UK Govt want one after (if they're going to let one happen). Therein lies the actual issue and debate. The issue is also more complex because a proportion of Scots who voted to leave the UK in 2014 also voted to leave the EU last year; so this isn't as clearly defined as you perhaps suggested. Currently the polls still show Scotland wanting to stay part of the UK, although that could change with how Brexit negotiations go. Gibraltar is another kettle of fish altogether. Gibraltar is *very* pro British. The last time they had a vote on even sharing sovereignty with Spain, they rejected it by 99%. However they need the border to stay open with Spain (therefore EU), as it's vital to their interests. So they really are in a big potential bind. This not helped by the fact that Spain will probably play games with the Brexit process as they want Gibraltar for geographic strategic reasons, despite the fact that almost no-one living there wants to be part of Spain.

And those are just two pieces of the very complex Brexit puzzle to be completed. So, interesting few years ahead...

People who voted leave even regretted it right afterwards. There should be a new vote. This will do nothing for the UK.
The funny thing was, the Scotland vote was to stay in the EU with the UK. Now the UK leaves and Scotland got screwed.

If the Scottish want to stay in the EU, then they should consider it, though also need to consider the fact that our being in the EU is what damaged the Scottish economy the most. We had to bow our heads, bend over and be buggered up the arse by the EU, with only a few real benefits, and if we were to try and complain, we were told to shut up and bend over again.

Two years is gonna be a very short time to agree on all positions so probably it will last much longer. When Greenland left the EU many years ago, they needed five years and they we're only talking about fish.

I feel like such things should need something like a 75% approval. having to leave the Eu and change everything for 4% majority?

lol, bold and ambitious free trade deal....leaving the EU will do nothing for the working class basically

"Can the UK pull of a Switzerland situation?"

Well, they could, but the main reason why Brexit was successful was that Brits don't want to grant the 4 freedoms anymore. Switzerland grants them.
So people who voted for Brexit specifically did it to get rid of the four freedoms(mainly, the open border and free movement).
And the EU was clear about the fact that you can't have free trade without granting the four freedoms.

So, based on the Brexit campaign narrativ, the UK doesn't want a model like Switzerlands or Norways.
They want closed borders => no free trade, free movement etc.

From the outset, I was really concerned that the Referendum, a binary decision, was given to the UK voter to decide on our future. I tried really hard to listen to debate, both for and against Brexit. Maybe it came down to a personality trait in the end i.e. I have never been the kind of person to take risks, particularly based on decisions which will so determine the lives of my children and my grandchildren. Because I did not want to take that risk, I decided to vote 'remain' in order to maintain the status quo, as a Brexit vote was a step into the unknown. I am still crying inside. What have we done? (A self-confessed 'Re-moaner' ).

It's such a shame that the MPs actually have no plan of action and have 2 years to get everything sorted.

I feel sorry for the British that now live in Europe as they may have to come back and vise versa.

I for one hope it goes smoothly and that the EU doesn't make it awkward out of spite, in order to punish the UK for leaving and make an example for others not to.

David I love your shows and I'm a Bit living in France. I got out while the going was good. I do hate it when it's reported that 'the country voted out of the EU'. The fact is that there was only a 73% turnout to vote on this. Of that 73% of voters 52% voted to leave the EU. So I guess the figures that actually voted out was 52% of 73% which barely 33% of all voters. Doesn't actually seem fair to me that a third can dictate to two thirds ?

We (Scotland) have been told by the UK government that they will block any independence referendum until after Brexit negotiations have been concluded. Furthermore the EU has indicated that an independent Scotland would not find it easy to join the EU and would be limited to some kind of trading partnership like Norway has. Independence could be a very risky gamble with no certainty regarding the EU.

Looking at Google maps: there is a road in Gibraltar called "Europa Road". Is this an indicator of where the road leads or should they rename it?

I honestly can't say if this is going to be a disaster or not, neither can our MPs. That's the main reason we should never have been given the referendum to allow this to happen.

There now seems to be a good chance we may end up with the same free trade agreement and movement of EU nationals. The main difference is all our goods will have to meet EU regulations and we're no longer at the table to decide on those regulations.

As a young Brit this just makes me sad. I can only hope things turn out better than they are looking. People on both sides care about the country, just may have some different ideas about how to improve things. Sadly when such a big question is boiled down to yes or no votes, much needed nuanced conversation is rarely seen.
