Nikole Hannah-Jones Denied Tenure at UNC, Reveals Discrimination in Academia | Need To Know

The same corporate university model that inflated student debt has also robbed professors like Nikole Hannah-Jones of job security. MTV News correspondent Yoonj Kim explains.

Perhaps Ms. Hannah-Jones was denied tenure because she was not qualified. She has no PhD. Her 1619 Project has some major historical flaws. Getting tenure is very difficult. Many very good scholars never attain it. Ms. Hannah-Jones was offered a five year contract- a five year guaranteed job. Almost no one in our society is guaranteed a job- let alone five years of work at good pay. Academia does, indeed, discriminate. It discriminates based on ability, educational level, and the quality and quantity of publications. The United States was not founded in 1619. It was founded in 1776. Slavery was not unique to the US in 1619- it was an almost universal institution. I wish Ms. Hannah-Jones all the best- but hope she moves on to a career in ideological activism- it is more suited to her style, abilities, and agenda.

This is, of course, pure nonsense. Anyone even slightly familiar with American universities and their hiring practices knows that they are some of the most liberal places on earth and want nothing more than to hire as many qualified minority candidates as possible. There is absolutely no evidence of discrimination.
