The real question is, are they keeping the not secure message for http only sites? I'd support this change if so, otherwise this could backfire a bit.

Lock means your data is encrypted, no one said it means that its safe.

Since it was first announced 2-3 months ago, many people are worried about how difficult it will be to re-educate non-computerish people that the padlock icon is changed and looks something that would be considered different from what its purpose is.

We still need to know if the info we enter like credit card details are still encrypted from people intercepting the info.

Wayland in my opinion is pretty much almost ready from daily use and I prefer it over x11 because it works fairly good in gnome

They do need to bring back the protocol being used in the address bar tho

"safe" is an ambiguous concept. As you mentioned it stands for using HTTPS which is secure HTTP. That means prevents anyone from eavesdropping or just reading the info during the connection between your web browser (client) and the server. On that regard it's safe but yeah the server may not be safe at all in the first place... For example you can have a secure connection to an unsafe server that hosts malicious content.

I've had this for weeks on the dev build. And I was very confused at first thinking what it was 😅

Canary, the developer version of Chrome.
I remember, around 2007-8, when the developer version of Chrome was Chromium & ppl were so excited that Google was actually going to have a browser.

what is "safe" is the communication with the website (The website can be a scam), also tls is for authenticity of the endpoint, as owning a CA signed cert for that very domain they serving content from is another way to verify you are actually connecting to the right place, this isn't always like this, dns hijacking + stolen cert and it's over, altho cracking on these 2 things at the same time is quite complex.

I hope it still visually indicates when a website isn't secure because when it doesn't use the certificate is insecure and you shouldn't be typing your passwords on that

Thank you bro. I understand how this disposable browser is important. But for people from outside USA it's expensive.

So some designer thinks that letting the user know if his communication with the server is private, is just messing with his artistic presentation

I beleive they already did this back in 2005 and then too many people cryed about it so they returend the lock icon.

Man I love extensions that direct shorts to the normal player, I don't have to suffer those stupid loops.
