How to Refinish Panasport G7 C5C2 Wheels!

I undertook the redic process of a full refinish of these ultra rare (see 'grails' in websters) Panasport G7 C5C2 in 18x10.5 +25 all around, in GTR fit to allow for the brembos in the front of the R33. These have been my favorite rims since my S-chassis days, and I am so hyped to have a set on my R33 GTR. They will look so sick with the midnight purple paint.

This was a pretty long project but I undertook it on a budget to get it all done looking FRESH for next to nothing.

Few notes:
1. When re-assembling the wheels, I used a low-power impact gun to tighten the bolts down in a star pattern.
2. Torque the wheel bolts to 24-25 ft-lbs (FOR 18 in rims ONLY, less for smaller rims), in a star pattern. After initial click, go over all the bolts again as there is sometimes a small shift in the bolts and rim as you torque it all down.
3. Panasport inner barrels are prone to cracking, and two of mine ere cracked and required welding. Everything went back together great and balanced up perfectly as well, so it is not a huge worry, just not a very strong barrel from factory. It is work upgrading them from wheel flip etc...

My favorite GTR chassis (R33 was new when I was a teen and discovered Option mag in the 90’s), best GTR color ever, and easily the best wheel from that era! Massive props on a detailed breakdown too.

Btw, I’ve been chasing 18” sets of C5C2 forever but when I find them they’re already rebuilt and I’m not about to drop $3k on wheels in the wrong specs with colors I hate. Finally gave in and picked up a decent width/offset of 17’s and will build them for beater wheels for my FD until I can finally find a proper 18” set. Oh yeah, the FD is definitely getting painted purple one of these days too. Lol

Any tips on splitting the lip, sealing disk, and inner barrel after the face has been removed? Shock it with a mallet? I’m hesitant to start bashing on things given the fact that the sealing disk is now “unobtanium.”

I have some rims that say pans sport, how do I know they are real wheels ?

What size of socket did you need for the wheel bolts? They turned out really nice... Looked like they had staggered offsets? I've got a set of c5c to sort out... Glad I watched this video first

Do these require sealant or is the gasket ring/layer enough
