Can you do that in SketchUp?

If you can believe it, SketchUp turned fifteen years old this past year. And still, we meet so many people who ask this question. In this video, we teamed up with real SketchUp users to share a story about just how much you can accomplish by designing and documenting your ideas in 3D. As you can see, we used a lot of native SketchUp to make this video! And along the way, we learned that, yes, you can do that in SketchUp.

Been using Sketchup for over 10 yrs, and for some things, it's great. It's especially great for those who don't have access or the knowledge to use a more complex cad program. I use it mainly for woodworking projects, but for most other applications I use other (granted, significantly more expensive) Cad programs. With that said, you can't beat it for the price!. This is a program that creates graphic images than you can convert to line drawings with a moderate level of detail. "Traditional" Cad programs create line drawings with high levels of detail that you can convert to a 3D graphic. I find that for my uses, it has a place along side my 3D cad program and my upper end architectural software.

I use Sketch daily for CNC products, I also built my house in sketchup and even planned and designed my 2 storey extension which is now finished.

Anyone can use SketchUp immediately after installation - no knowledge needed. And now even without installation - as an online app. And it's free of course. But under the hood it has the worlds probably most advanced graphic intuition engine, that guesses what the user wants to do - draw lines, circles, cubes, anything and then copy, move or rotate them or paint them and some 1001 things more! It can produce a 3D-printed ring for your finger or your villa or entire block of houses. And it is getting better all the time. You can even develop into a pro and make a living out of it if you have great idéas. Then, for instance, it can become an advanced BIM-CAD software for architects at a super low cost. I am a pro user since many years and I still uncover new exciting properties to explore in SketchUp.

Many years ago i went to a CAD architecture company, they said they loved sektchup becuse, there and then, they could quickly customise a clients ideas, and simple things like applying textures and making the windows transparent would give such a huge professional quality!

I LOVE SKETCHUP! My Fasebook photo page is filled with albums of 100s of pics of SketchUp models from the Temple Mount Project down to things like saw horses.

Sketchup needs some simple animation tools.(I.E. shift / rotate of grouped objects or components over time). Preset functions like rotate 90 degrees(open/close doors), looping (conveyor belt), rotating wheel, waving flag, live/animated textures using GIF, etc... I AM TIRED OF USING POORLY SUPPORTED PLUGINS FOR THESE TASKS. I want something that is integrated directly into the software and regularly updated. Output to video is an absolute must. Yes, I know about Blender... I'm not interested in spending another year in a learning curve. The web is going video-centric and Sketchup needs this functionality to keep up.

I'm working with Sketchup for more than 5 Years!
and the most questions all the time other ask are:
Can you do that in SketchUp?!
Is this really done in SktechUP?!
How is it possible to do this in SketchUp?!

No se confundan!
No necesitamos hablar mal de otros software, sólo nos da gusto resolver todo (o casi todo) con SketchUp!
Do not get confused!
We do not need to talk bad about other software, we just like to solve everything (or almost everything) with SketchUp!

I use Sketchup almost daily, both at work and at home. It's been at least 3 years and I don't want to use anything else.

yeah, since I've been using SU for nearly 10 years, I have to admit that SU is an amazing modeling software. But I have to say it is still far from "perfect".
