I work in the fashion industry and the funniest thing is, the majority of the luxury brands out there use the same exact factory as the “knock off”. In reality, you are getting the same item but paying more.

I do laundry professionally for some of the wealthiest people in my area. Multi-million dollar mansions, in guard gated communities, for CEO's, politicians & celebrities. And guess what kind of laundry I'm doing? Brands from Walmart & Target & only the occasional washable designer piece. Like yeah, the sweatshirt is Gucci, but the inner wear is Walmart. And don't get me started on the underwear. Holes & stains to high heaven. They don't let them go until they can't pull them on any longer. Til the wheels fall off, I guess. And not just 1 mega-wealthy client, but many of them. It's oddly comforting to know.

this has always been a thing. a girl did a social experiment in i think China? I could be wrong about the location, but she's a college student that pretended to be a socialite for a college project. she bought all kinds of knockoffs. gucci, prada, celine, etc. and went into the actual stores wearing these knockoffs and NOBODY noticed. the workers in the gucci store immediately gave her a complimentary bag and another store showed her their most expensive jewelry because she was wearing a fake bulgari necklace. so even the sellers themselves don't know what the hell the difference is. save your money and buy knockoffs.
