I'm so glad someone is talking about this. I'm often told to just relax. I

I have diagnosed CPTSD Autism & ADHD. And yes I think my autism made me much much more vulnerable to the abuse & bullying at home & in school. I hated being a child & teenager.
But my CPTSD in combo with my autism made me get into many traumatic events during my 20ies.
Getting my autism & adhd diagnosis at 29, after having an extrem burnout, the longest I ever had, really helped me getting much needed help!

Exactly right! That's why ordinary "change the way you think" therapy doesn't work for us. I've quit that nonsense after too many unsympathetic "professionals" ignored why I am the way I am INSTEAD OF trying to help me find ways to deal with it.

Yes it's deep...and true. My life has been lived in a minefield. And I am wounded.

Yes! 100% agree with all of this!!!! What do you do when your primary trigger/stressor is interacting in a neurotypical world with people who don’t understand how your brain works? I haven’t found any reasonable solutions to this.

"We heal from trauma, and we embrace autism"...not my words, but I find them so true!

Adhd can also cause cptsd,
Getting targeted by bullies, predators or other evil group activities.

Being different can be stressful,
And stress can cause many illnesses.

I once heard someone say that it's most often impossible to tell which traits of an autistic person stem from their being autistic and which traits stem from trauma because we don't yet live in a world in which autistic people can exist without being traumatized the experience.

like autism I think CPTSD is also a spectrum. I have both. My early infancy and early childhood were very chaotic and I was abused sexually for over a year at age 6. Getting a CPTSD diagnosis a decade ago was as revelatory as my recent AUD diagnosis. We are just so special!

Amygdala firing, anxiety, etc are symptoms. Autism and C-PTSD share symptoms, that doesn't mean that these processes are from the same cause. Individuals with autism are more likely to experience C-PTSD and have a worsening of symptoms, but I think being accurate is really important here.

I think this raises the question of whether autism is a single condition or multiple conditions that each have unique inherent characteristics and converge on similar outward behaviors from environmental stressors. Maybe repetitive behaviors are only an inherent feature of a small fraction of autistic people and for the rest of us repetitive behaviors are caused by being in the wrong environment for instance.

CPTSD doesn't behave that way at all. It isn't just being exosed to uncomfortable situations over and over. It has to be the same sort of trauma consistently over a period of time like domestic abuae. CPTSD also has other symptoms. Now if someone forced ABA or another tyoe of abusive "therapy" then i would say a big hell yeah you might have CPTSD, but simply masking isn't going to give you CPTSD. Even so, it is the abuse ftom that gives you trauma not simply being autistic and having to mask. Masking all the time might definitely give you an anxiety disorder for sure but it won't "give you PTSD. Hypervigilance is just one symptom og PTSD. 🤨

I was diagnosed about 6 years ago with CPTSD following a long term abusive relationship. In therapy, I realized that the symptoms actuallt go back to childhood, though. Recently, I've started to question whether or not I am also autistic, but I find the overlap with CPTSD signs/experiences to be very confusing.

Can you have c-PTSD without the trauma being in your childhood

I am diagnosed with autism and ADHD, but a psychologist that I just met once, who works a lot with CPTSD patients, questioned if I actually am autistic or just have CPTSD..? I mean you can have both, but now im unsure.. was I wrongly diagnosed? I have like everything in common with autism and a person with CPTSD. Im confusion:(
