Let's talk about 'Lord' Marco (an epidemic of fake drumming videos)

I'm the Karl Jobst of death metal now

0:00 Disclaimer
0:28 Intro / Backstory
2:05 First video (fake kick drums)
4:08 Second video (fake snare drums)
4:55 Third video (speeding up videos)
9:17 Fourth video (fake "raw" album tracks)
15:30 What being hidden from a channel looks like
17:40 Comment on community post

NOTES: 3:40 lots of people keep saying the beater not moving is a result of it being the same frame rate as the camera. Assuming the video is filmed at 30fps that would require him to be playing 30 notes per second with 1 foot, which is equivalent to 16th notes at 450bpm with 1 single foot which is physically impossible. Also the song is at 300bpm, which is 20 notes per second and would mean the video would have to be filmed at 20fps so therefore he would have to be playing 20 notes per second with one foot, which is also physically impossible. For reference, 16th notes at 250bpm is 16.6 notes per second which is obviously only physically possible with 2 feet together.

In the section at 9:46 I say 7.5%, however I misspoke and the actual number is 6.5%

10:09 to 17:39 my webcam isn't there because it was covering some of the comments as I was reading them when filming initially. I went back and did it again without the webcam so you guys could see everything (yes I liked my own comments. Deal with it lol)

The reason you never see any comments on his videos calling out the editing mistakes is because he hides every single one of them, as shown by my example in this video of what he did to my comment. He did the same thing on his Instagram when he had an Instagram, he also does it on his YouTube community posts and his Facebook page.

There are countless other examples of him doing things like this in his other videos. Most of the time they're for very small amounts of time so I didn't bother going through and showing those. There's A LOT of them so we'd have to jump sporadically from video to video and it would be jarring for you guys to watch

I also recognize that there are people who will never be convinced no matter how much hard conclusive evidence you show them. If you are one of those people, this video is obviously not for you

What’s crazy is the short is impressive enough. To a non-metal drummer I’m like “you already sounded great! You risked your reputation for 7%?!?!”

Really unfortunate that a drummer who is clearly very skilled would feel the need to fake their performances.

It would be absolutely hilarious if archspire announced that Spencer actually didn’t leave and this was all an elaborate scheme to expose fake YouTube drummers

I know Lord Marco is a great drummer, but I could tell for YEARS that his videos were sped up. His movements were so unnatural and his cymbals always moved and slowed down way to quickly. People always gave me shit for saying I thought his videos were hella edited, glad someone could finally prove it. Great video my guy

Wow, that was interesting! I remember sometimes scratching my head thinking if what he did was humanly possible, but I never seriously considered him speeding up his videos. My internal argument always was "he is so good, why would he do that?" and I have seen enough crazy drumming to know that sometimes stuff does look unnatural even when it is real. Humans are capable of amazing things! I am a bit disappointed now - but also a bit relieved somewhat.

This is fantastic level detective work, and I for one am glad to see musicians called out on this kind of stuff. The truly sad thing is that the majority of musicians on YouTube/Social Media are doing this, and they're talented enough that they DO NOT NEED TO. Unfortunately because of social media, everyone demands perfection and it's made so many musicians fall into the trap of editing their playthroughs to make everything perfect. It sets a very unrealistic bar for younger musicians watching, and I wish more musicians would just show the mistakes so people can learn and see how musicians are actually adapting and getting better.

FOR YEARS i've been saying Lord Marco is a fraud, all sped up, fake editing, YEARS. THANK YOU.
His delusional fans kept telling me " cry hater " . and now finally the curtain falls.

Spot on, bro.
I used to play shows very regularly with Marco & Braindrill way back when they first came on the scene, and he was doing the same shit way back then.
Also, it's funny that he says that he's never talked negatively about another drummer in his entire life. Marco would talk crap about almost every drummer back in the day lol.

I once invited Marco to do a YouTube live video with me. The rules: he could pick any song that I have done on my channel and I could pick any song he's done on his channel - we would then go on YouTube live and knock it out. He agreed to the challenge publicly and then promptly blocked me lol

This isn't to attack anyone but I am just so over this issue in extreme music. Good on you for taking the time to highlight this.

There is only one Lord Marco, LORD MARCO MINNEMANN

it's crazy because he's obviously a great drummer, if he just admitted that the clips were edited, I don't think anyone would care. The insecurity is palpable

As someone who beat the hell out of myself, physically and mentally, in order to reach this level of playing, this is a serious stroke to my ego. Thanks Mike.

Wow, great work. This really just shows that no matter how talented someone is at something, they should never be considered to be “too good to cheat”

Weird... He absolutely doesn't need to fake anything to be considered impressive. What a shame
