Was the Minecraft 'Phantom' Mob... a Mistake?

I hate this mob with a seething passion. Having to fight off 10 of them divebombing you like it's Pearl Harbor while on top of a big build is infuriating.

The problem is that minecraft is a sandbox game and this mob tries to dictate how you need to play. Doesn't go that well together.

A better solution would be a new additional item to the sleep system. The Sleeping Bag. A sleeping bag, unlike a bed, takes a durability hit every time you use it. It is crafted from wool and leather and iron nuggets (for the zipper). You can take a sleeping bag with you on your adventures and put it down and sleep anywhere to convert night into day and to avoid dealing with Phantoms but using a sleeping bag to sleep does not overwrite your bed spawn location. There... problem solved.

They should make a phantom nest type thing. And if you find/destroy it, phantoms will stop spawning in that area

Edit: I think the fact that my comment has 1k likes and this video came out like 6 months ago really shows that the community would like this idea.

I think phantoms are fine for single player/ private servers with just you and your friend. But on multiplayer...

Phantoms are nothing more than an annoyance. They aren't quirky or unique at all. They just show up and scream, "NO FUN ALLOWED TONIGHT!" After an hour of play time. I don't think they're a good addition at all.

I don't mind them in singleplayer. But in big multiplayer servers, where sleeping is impossible they are the most annoying thing on the planet.
