이 시각 국회 상황: 잠시 뒤 2차 윤대통령 탄핵안 표결

Thank you for tuning into our breaking news coverage of the second impeachment vote against President Yoon Suk Yeol over his unexpected martial law declaration around 10 days ago.
The impeachment motion will soon be put to a vote at the National Assembly.
We go straight over to our Correspondent Shin Ha-young.
Ha-young, how's the mood there? The voting will begin in about half an hour.

Jung-min, as the plenary session approaches, the situation here is getting more tense.
In less than 30 minutes, the session will take place here at the National Assembly, where the lawmakers will gather to vote on the second impeachment motion for President Yoon Suk Yeol, introduced by six pan-opposition parties two days ago.
This time, the opposition took more time than originally intended to "strengthen the reasonings for impeachment" with more allegations added based on questioning and the investigations that took place this past week.
The vote, initially set for 5 PM today, was moved forward an hour as the Speaker's Office cited the significance of the issue and the possibility of delays.

Then Ha-young, what are the updates from the rival parties ahead of the vote?

Well, since early this morning, the rival parties have each held closed-door meetings to discuss their strategies ahead of the vote.
The ruling People Power Party decided, through party consensus, to boycott the first vote last week.
But today is a bit different, as the party is leaning toward participating in the second impeachment vote.
The discussion is ongoing as we speak.
So far, the party chairman Han Dong-hoon and Floor Leader Kweon Seong-dong are in agreement on allowing individual party lawmakers to freely participate in the vote.
But they're at odds over the party’s stance, with Han firmly advocating for impeachment and Kweon opposing it.
The party has yet to finalize and announce its consensus, but Kweon told reporters that it's unlikely the party's stance on voting against the impeachment motion will change.
Han, who's expressed his support for Yoon's impeachment, urged lawmakers this morning to prioritize the country and the people ahead of the second vote.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Democratic Party, along with other minor parties, remain resolute in their intentions to impeach the president.
The final meeting for the DP started just a few minutes ago at 3:30 PM ahead of the plenary session, where they're expected to finalize the party's stance and once again, show their determination to pass the motion.
Earlier today, DP Leader Lee Jae-myung urged the ruling party lawmakers to exercise their voting rights and warned that history will remember their decisions.
The opposition lawmakers also went out the gates of the National Assembly to greet the people who've gathered outside in support of impeachment.

The key question now is how many votes of support the ruling party will have. Right?

You're right, Jung-min.
Now it's a different story compared to the previous vote, which was dropped as it did not meet the minimum number of participants required.
Unlike the first impeachment vote, support for impeaching President Yoon has gained momentum within the PPP after the party's leader officially backed the second impeachment motion on Thursday.
For the impeachment to pass, at least two-thirds of the 300 lawmakers must approve it.
Currently, there are 199 lawmakers, from the main opposition Democratic Party and others, including 7 PPP members who support the motion to impeach the president.
So, we'll have to wait and see how the vote turns out.
That's all I have for this hour, Jung-min.

That was our political correspondent Shin Ha-young live from the National Assembly.
Thank you.
