Cop forgot to tell the driver his car fit a description of a stolen car, didn't signal a turn and didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

We recently in my town had a cop pull a guy over who couldn't maintain a lane. Said they smelled weed. Told him to step out of the car, they were going to search it. He was like "no thank you, I will remain in my car, I don't consent to searches." Cop was more or less like "that's nice, but you're still stepping out of the car and I'm still searching it." In my state (Tennessee), the smell of marijuana alone is enough to justify a warrantless search, based solely on the officers judgement. The guy still refused, cop called for backup, new cop arrived, they attempted to force the man out of his car, man ended up firing a 🔫 through his door and hit both officers. One was treated and released, the other didn't make it (gone before EMS could get there). Now one man is forever gone and another's life is ruined because not only is it still legal for a cop to search your car just by claiming they smell weed, but the US can't pass consistent laws from state to state (in many states, the smell of weed alone is no longer a justifible reason to search someone's car without a warrant, and this man would likely be acquitted by claiming sekf defense against an officer violating his rights).
