The Insane Plan to Shoot Rockets From Rail-Guns!

preview_player
Показать описание
Sending man out into space hasn’t really gotten more cost-effective over the decades. Sure, we don’t waste as many billions on disposable rocket stages as we used to, but again, the amount of energy needed to send a man into orbit just costs too much time and resources. In this one, we will talk about how to use rail-guns to shoot spacecraft to space thus avoid using propellant.

I like this idea because it's feasible. It only requires the further development of existing technology.
There is nothing too exotic or costly that stands in the way.

This might be a solution to replace the first stage of most rockets and make ssto craft feasible, you might also get it funded if you convince the airforce it can launch low cost long range aircraft/missles

A year ago, I had that idea for space-planes. I drew it as a nice idea for a sci-fi lego toy to build.

Seriously though, why so few views?

Rail gun powered by solar array, with spacecraft using something like the ARCA water rocket as booster and... you have a space launch that's got a very very low carbon footprint. All energy could be produced by solar or some other renewable. This would be better than scram jet, no? As a booster rocket, it would have enough thrust to launch a vessel into space, yet, it can drop back to ground and does not need to be taken with. Furthermore, when it falls, it can guide back to launch site whereas a scram jet would need another rocket or something else on it as it does not work once falling back at lower speeds. Thirdly, it's even more environmentally friendly than a scram jet... which... is admittedly already a fairly high bar. Also, not being as dependent on the actual release speed from the rail gun may make a vessel more adaptable for launching larger loads. If it leaves the gun at say... 1, 200mph, that's enough force to get a water rocket high enough, to the point that much of the problems of a water propelled rocket, mainly the weight, start to be overcome not because of weight difference, but because it's starting from a vessel already moving 1, 200mph and the drag from the atmosphere being much less because you're exiting it much quicker, starts to counteract the weight problem. A scram jet though would simply need X speed just to start firing. Not sure if larger loads would have issues getting up to speed on a rail gun or not, but if that sort of thing is an issue, the launch speed would become more critical with a thing like a scramjet than a water propelled rocket.

Great vid! Wouldn't these strong magnetic fields fry the electronics of the plane and the space craft?

I always think like what if we build a rail gun similar to this in space, and it launches ships or smaller spacecraft like voyager’s into deep space, like how fast could we get things going with zero gravity, but then also we have the new pulsed plasma engines to supplement after launch, I’d think we could have super fast interstellar travel at least.

Superconductor electromagnetic launch out of a mine shaft is better if a sled is used that would want to be recovered separately...

I have been talking about this since 2015 for satellites and possible shuttles.

Next question: What is the advantages of rail gun? Why don't we use a big gun and shoot the payload to orbit?

Am curious, could the existing naval railgun reach space if it was shot up? Apparently, it has a range of 122miles, and think its around 60miles to space? Wish i could do the maths, am thinking smaller payloads than manned flights tbh, like, could use it to send water and supplies to the international space station, like, if it could get there, and if it took a day or so reload with solar power, then you could send daily loads cost effectively i guess.
And, what happen if over time, you sent the parts into space built and shot a railgun in space? I mean, again, would you be able to say hit mars with it? I mean, thereotically it might work? Then you could have daily packages shot into space, then shot to mars to stockpile supplies

great video, but I think the talking speed needs to be slow down, and subtitles also needed.

what about a hyperspeed train acting as the rail gun, which launches the scramjet
