I remember before in the early seasons, Merlin had to say something along the lines of 'Forbèarn' or something but now he just had to do the yellow glowy eyes thing, just shows how much more powerful he became over the years

When I first watched this show, I was expecting one or two seasons of Arthur not knowing, and then a reveal, and then a few seasons where their dynamic had changed. I was so looking forward to how they would work differently and how they would work through Arthur's prejudices. This episode, while heavy and wonderful, just didn't do enough.

When he says I thought I knew you, hes right he doesn’t really know him. He doesn’t know the depth of his love, loyalty and devotion to him. He doesn’t understand how many times he’s almost died protecting or sacrificing himself for him and his cause. He doesn’t realise how much Merlin actually did for him. I would have liked him to know all that before he passed. To actually be able to show the gratification and love we know he felt for Merlin to him. The end shows that to this day Merlin still awaits the return of his old friend. I can’t imagine having that kind of a friend.

I honestly feel really bad for Arthur. Everyone he knew and trusted lied to him in one way or another. Uther lied to him about the details of his birth, Morgana lied and betrayed him as Merlin lied to him about using magic

It's good to see many people love this series still, despite how old it is.

They NEED to do a sequel one off series or mini series, hell I’d be happy with a film as long as the story was well written, set in Modern Day. The dragon said that Arthur would one day rise again when Albion needs him most. And it’s shown that Merlin is still alive in the modern day waiting so why not? And I’m sure Merlin could do a spell to make himself look younger again just like he used the spell to make himself look older when he was younger, that way Colin Morgan wouldn’t have to wear all that make up & prosthetics the whole time. It could also show Arthur’s dismissal & surprise at the modern day whilst Merlin has aged with the world Arthur has been shunted back into it & could also show how Merlin blends in with the rest of modern society, just like in Camelot avoiding usage of magic at all costs. But also helping out where he can without getting exposed. It would also be interesting to see what, if any, magical creatures & users survived to modern day even if the vast population have no idea about it.

I cried at the end of the show, I was so sad. They do a really good job giving you a connection to the character's and make you feel what they're feeling. I also started watching Merlin because it had a dragon and magic in the show but didn't expect what I got which was so much more. I hope they continue on in a new series, because we were left on a cliff hanger and in the series Kilgarrah said in the last episode, "Arthur is the once and future King. In Albion's greatest time of need Arthur will rise again." Present day is Albion so maybe Merlin's coming back even though the show was ended in 2012, maybe I'm getting too hopeful. Otherwise by far in my top three favourite shows of all time, 10 out of 10.

This scenein particular is really interesting because Merlin waits for Arthur's signal that he can use his magic. He starts off doing it the way he's always done and when Arthur questions him he states that he can light the fire that way, its only when Arthur nods that Merlin actually uses it. All of the scenes in this episode broke me but this scene always piqued my interest.
