Melanistic Coyote

I was lucky to stumble upon an area with melanistic coyote. I collected videos of them and waited until they moved on so as not to disturb them as this is very rare to encounter. Black coyote have a recessive gene called melanism. Melanism is a trait that results from the higher production of eumelanin, giving the animal a black coat, occurrence of melanism is relatively low. Melanistic coyotes make up less than ten percent of the coyotes mostly located in the southeast.
