In today’s video we are chatting with David Gnozzi about the brand new course he just released over at Pro Mix Academy!

Mixing Modern Rock with David Gnozzi is an amazing course that will show you how to achieve hard hitting rock mixes on a hybrid set up. David says that this is perhaps the most comprehensive course he has ever done, and is very different from his others.

David Gnozzi is an award-winning engineer with over 20 years of experience recording and mixing. Before dedicating himself to mixing full-time in 2010, David was a professional musician, and released 2 albums.

In 2014, David started the popular YouTube channel, MixbusTV. MixbusTV quickly became on of the most trusted and respected mix and mastering channels, and is known for its detailed and technical reviews of pro audio hardware and software.

To make this course, he recorded the actual mixing process for a mix that he did for a client, which was a band called Stonebreed, which is a really cool rock and roll band. Because this is real mix that David did for an actual client, you will see his entire mixing process – including the things he tried that didn’t work! As he goes through the mixing process, you will see him trying different plugins or pieces of hardware, and as he goes along he will explain why certain things did not work and why he decided to go with something else.

When he mixes, David uses a hybrid mixing approach. In this course you will learn how to use just a few pieces of hardware to add warmth and saturation to your digital mixes to make them feel larger than life.

Great to see David again...been so busy I haven't checked into Mixbus TV for a bit.
Just a friendly reminder (and this is not a plug I don't affiliate with the company just love their stuff.)
Check out Presonus hardware every now and then even if You do not use Studio One for a DAW.
Headphones are amazingly accurate and sensitive. Their Studio Monitors are also fantastic.
They have other great hardware but I'm an in The Box guy for the most part so not as tech oriented as Warren & David.

It's been a really cool journey here on this channel, from first checking tutorial on vocal mixing, to drums and guitar, bass etc. but then starting to see talks about general musicianship and studio stuff, interviews with engineers and now interviews with all the other youtube channels I follows, this has been so cool!

I see a Boss Katana off to the side of David's Desk. The mini I think.

Have you used any of the Boss Katana amps Warren? They are great and very affordable. I owned a first gen Katana 50 watt and loved it. I could not figure out the application software though. A little tricky for me and at the time there were no tutorials online. Take Care!

David, it looks like you've placed your main monitors pretty close to the corners of the room. Did you do any special treatment beside of the corner traps to reduce the bass build up? I'm in a situation to have a small room and there's no way not to place my monitors close to a corner. Thank you.

I opened Waves Bezerk the other day for the first time.. and as soon as I saw it had 800 different controls and settings, I closed it and went back to old faithful Decapitator LOL

Great video. Warren and David - I'm a guitar/bass player and am starting to get into mixing and mastering (which is why this channel is so awesome!). My DT770s are 80 ohm and I can't push them enough with my interface headphone out to get a really inspirational sound tracking so I was looking for something that would work well for tracking as well as mixing and mastering. Would these Austrian Audios do well at this combo with the low impedance? Any other suggestions that don't take a ton of power to drive?

I know David probably covers this in the course but I’m curious if he uses any special metering when setting up his basic mix levels. Especially with setting up ensuring the level before and after plugins and hardware remains the same.
