Dedicated to fireman across the world that risk their lives daily to keep us safe , #911 and to all that were perished on the day of the disaster on August 21 , 1916 at Low Moor in Bradford. R.I.P.

In this video we explore and find the site of the explosion that took place at the premises of the Low Moor Munitions Company.

They were dealing with Picric Acid that was used in explosives.

A massive explosion and a series of smaller ones killed 40 people including on-site workers, a railwayman and six firemen who had attended the fire from the Odsal and Nelson Street fire stations from Bradford.

We visit : THE EXPLOSION SITE * THE GRAVES OF THE 6 FIREMAN * WEST YORKSHIRE AND FIRE RESCUE SERVICE AT BIRKENSHAW *

A great film. Mary and Geoff are lovely people, I met them at Bradford Family History Society. Really encouraging and helpful. I live in Leeds but where I live was owned by the Low Moor Mining Company and the roads are named after the owners and managers. Keep up the excellent films. Thank you.

Really enjoyed seeing this video.. My Gt Grandfather, George Robert Scatchard was a policeman living in Wyke at the time. He was on duty that day and he ran down wyke lane to help at the explosion. He was awarded a bravery medal for rescuing some people from the explosion.

thanks for an informative video. I lived near the site and local knowledge stated 'over 1600 homes and other premises were damaged in the explosion'. People recalled their windows were blown out and people hurt by flying glass and debris. A school situated over 2 and 3/4 miles away made a claim for damages resulting from the explosion.
