Boris Johnson has paid tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore, who has died at the age of 100.

Captain Tom captured Britain’s heart after he raised more than £30 million for the NHS last year.

The prime minister described the veteran as a "hero in the truest sense of the word".

The flag above 10 Downing Street flew at half-mast in tribute to Sir Tom and the Prime Minister spoke to the veteran's daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore to offer his condolences.

The irony is...

Captain Tom fought for freedom that Boris took away, even from him and other WW2 heroes
