I believe they’ll sell adapters to other chargers in order to charge “all of the above”

Nice review of plugs. Thanks.

Sales department get a spec wrong? No! Never!

We use CCS-2 in New Zealand (and Australia) like Europe. But New Zealand also has loads of Nissan Leafs, Mitsubishi PHEVs, and some other cars imported used from Japan, all these have CHAdeMO. On the DC chargers in NZ, all the stations have 1:1 ratio of CCS and CHAdeMO, some stations have 2:1 ratio CCS2 to CHAdeMO. Most of the DC chargers can be configured with both, just by changing the cable on the DC charger.

I would prefer to have CCS, because it looks like the market is going that way, but CHAdeMO will be supported for a long time yet here.

It's a quandary: Aptera has stated - repeatedly - that it will have CCS charging but all of the Alpha and Beta prototypes use salvaged Tesla charging connectors. Despite statements from Aptera's chief designer to the contrary, Aptera seems set on keeping its charging port behind the rear license plate: The issue with this is that a CCS charging port is significantly taller than a standard US motorcycle license plate. As to ChaDeMo, my guess would be that - with an appropriate adaptor - Aptera "could" be charged from ChaDeMo in the same way as Tesla vehicles.

As of 2021, West Virginia was the only remaining state requiring all occupants of an autocycle to wear a helmet. Montana required helmets for those under age 18, Arkansas for those under age 20, Alaska for those under age 18 and Maine for those under age 17. Only PA, AK and RI still required autocycle drivers to attain motorcycle endorsements on their operator licenses.

Chris seems pretty passionate about following Tesla's lead on several things that many might find questionable. (The yoke for example and putting side view mirror displays in your line of sight, which will be interesting at night.) If Aptera can make an agreement with Tesla that seems like the direction they will go but Tesla doesn't like the slow DC charge at 50kw. It isn't that it can't be done, they just want you off the charge ASAP so someone else can use it. (I would argue that charging a 40kw battery from 20% to 80%, the point where the Aptera can charge at a max DC rate of 50kw under ideal conditions; that the amount of time will actually be faster than most other vehicles charging at 100kw.)

As for CHAdeMO, that does not make sense to include both or all three, CCS, CHAdeMO & Tesla though Nathan has mentioned that there is plenty of room in the front, under the logo to put all three. From a cost standpoint, doing this would be one of those questionable things that I would not be surprised to see them actually do. For non-US vehicles then they would include the standards for that region. From a logical standpoint, it would make sense to use a Tesla connector and any adapter you need to that.

Tesla has allowed non-Tesla vehicles on their charges but the adapter cost the last I saw was $240. (The adapter from Tesla vehicle to CCS is only $50). It is in Tesla's interest to make non-Tesla vehicles able to use their chargers to get US government money to expand the EV charging network.

The dream would be if a deal with Tesla is made. Tesla supercharger is the gold standard. I've done both and Tesla is by far my favorite!! Cheers from Northern California!!

The Tesla network is currently larger with more plugs per location and they are so much faster to fix any problems with a plug that is down. I can't remember but I think their uptime is some ridiculous number like 99.6% where it is unfortunately common for EA stations to be offline whether it's one plug or the whole station and they need to be better and fast. Same with Chargepoint and Shell (formerly Greenlots). I think it is unlikely that Aptera will choose the Tesla plug, but if they do the number of open charging plugs is displayed on the screen which is useful if you are coming in with only 20 miles of range remaining. so you could divert away before it's too late or know you can just plug in when you park.

I’m assuming they’re using adapters to achieve that. The currently plug on the Aptera is the Tesla standard.

I'm guessing that the CHAdeMO was a mistake. The real question is if the Aptera will include both CCS1 and the Tesla connector. Or if they will provide an adapter. And will the CCS adapter and cable connect to a regular 110V outlet, and 220V outlet, and/or Tesla Supercharger plug?

I will say that in the US there are an increasing number of automakers making CCS cars the dominant plug is still Tesla because each year 70-80% of the cars sold are Tesla's. I am sure that will change and there will be adapters to go either way soon.
It doesn't matter which plug Aptera chooses except Chademo is disappearing, so that would not be wise, but Aptera is going to charge so fast that a 50kW fast charger will be all that you need. I think you could make a case that a level 2 Jplug is all you need because it will add miles so fast. That way when the fast chargers are all backed up, you can just go to a free Jplug at a mall. You should only need any charging away from home on road trips and at home an ordinary wall outlet at 13 miles per hour is plenty.
Chademo was set up from the beginning as a two way power system for your home, but the Japanese fumbled it badly by spending the last ten years yakking about hydrogen and not exploiting their EV lead.
This vehicle is really the game changer. People don't realize it yet.

💡An ad from Sun Common played before your video. They make a solar canopy under which EVs can be parked. I think this is a brilliant solution for mega juicing an Aptera at home.

Good job with the video - you provided some good information. I signed up for the vehicle but I really would like to see one up close. Aptera marketing can not give me any updates on where they will be showing the vehicle this year which seems odd. I expect they really don't have a production ready model at this time. Hopefully by next year,

That’s pretty amazing 150 from a regular outlet. Sure hope we can make a deal with Tesla.

I suspect someone must make a chademo to ccs adapter but in 5 minutes of searching, I couldn't find one. I will say this for the marketing department, they do hire good photographers and location scouts.

I used a charging station at a VW dealership here in Denver the other day on my LEAF-it was nnniiiccceeee. A chargepoint station. Luckily my LEAF came with a chademo port or I wouldn't have been able to use it.

Hello out there to Aptera and all followers...the voltage standard in the USA is 120/240 and it has been since 1946. It is NOT 110/220 volts.

Is there information about how well the Apteras would be affected by a hailstorm ?
