Rory McIlroy shoots 68 to force PLAYOFF | Round 4 | THE PLAYERS | 2025

In the final round of THE PLAYERS Championship 2025, Rory McIlroy cards a 4-under 68 to get to 12-under par overall, forcing a Monday playoff with J.J. Spaun and seeking a second title at TPC Sawgrass.


The PGA TOUR heads to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida this week for the THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Defending champion and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler returns to THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass looking to extend his legacy and become the first golfer to three-peat at THE PLAYERS. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy is hoping to recreate some magic at in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. McIlroy, winner of this year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, captured the THE PLAYERS in 2019, but has had a bit of a mixed bag at TPC Sawgrass since then. With over 75 yards added, THE PLAYERS will be decided over the 7,352 yards that THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass has to offer. Alongside last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational winner Russell Henley, other notable players in the field include Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Åberg, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler with a total of 48 of the world’s top 50 playing in this year's event.

His putter was on a lucky streak. So many lip ins that could’ve just as easily not gone in. I hope he wins tomorrow though because he needs some momentum going into Augusta where he can hopefully clinch the grand slam.

Spaun plays really safe. I debate whether his safe play in the 4th round cost him the win or if it actually gave him the opportunity to see the playoff tomorrow against Rory.

I love when the announcers are wrong … they say a shot sounded thin or mishit, and the ball ends up like 10 feet from the hole from like 230 yards out 😂 they said “it needs to go!” Or “it needs to get up” and they were wrong every time

I don’t think Rory has been as comfortable with his game as he is now (maybe when he won his first major), so the Masters is coming soon and there’s a stellar field and hopefully he can be in contention on the back 9 on n Sunday!
