This scene is so heartbreaking. I understand Michael wanting to know the truth of his real family, but he left the ones that’s cared for him behind. And in scene you can tell he still cares about them.

You can sense a bit of a conflict within Michael in this scene. On one hand he still appreciates his adopted mum and younger brother. He's even taken aback (maybe even a little regretful) by hearing of the father's passing knowing he wasn't there. However he also knows he's too far gone to ever return to such a simple life with simple people.

I wish Michael visited them sometimes instead of trying to avoid them. I mean he clearly cares about them u see that when she tells him about his dad. I just don’t really understand why he never visits if he does care.

He loves his mom and his little brother. You can read all over his face he is horrified at the passing of his dad. However, he is in far too deep and he knows that if people find out about his adoptive family in the country, they will come after them. He wants them to live happily and safely away from all of this.

I understand Mrs. Johnson loved Michael and Michael loved them. It's also understandable that Michael wanted to know his real family, because he was taken away. Polly didn't choose to get rid of Michael and his sister. But the least Mrs Johnson could've done was tell Michael the truth about Polly, not lie
