The HTC One (M8) Teardown Review

There has been a lot of buzz about the next generation HTC One. The original HTC One was released last year to a ton of praise from reviewers, but when we got it on our teardown table it ended up with a dismal 1 out of 10 repairability score. I didn't have any trouble whatsoever getting the M7 opened without damage so I don't know what the fuss is about.. The M8 looks even easier.

Do you ever try to reassemble them after the teardowns? That would be interesting too.

The M8 looks like an awesome phone but damn, that looks like a cluster f to take apart. My iPhone 4 was a breeze compared to what that looks like. Hopefully there won't be need to disassemble if it's built well enough.

i have one, and broke the screen over the summer. i finally decided to spend the oney to fix it, and oh boy. they fixed the screen, but then the ear piece didnt work. so they had to order a new ear piece. while that was being ordered, i took it home to find out i couldnt even turn it on. i sent it back, they fixed that (had to solder some stuff), so i take my phone back again... to find out that the mic also doesnt work and the cameras... yep... not an easy thing...

God inside of the m8 looks messy. This is where apple shines. Internals look as good as the outside.

1:33 Do you need any kind of glue to put the top and bottom covers back in place?

The area around the Sim of the back cover isn't snapping over the phone. How do I know it's not going to break if I press harder?

I like everything in HTC M8 but the difficulty in replacing the battery is a deal breaker. Why not design a battery with a tray that is removable using a pin like the SIM card slot?

It looks good but the double lens was taken off from the Iphone 5s

HTC has HTC Advantage. If you crack your screen within the first 6 months of owner ship, you can send it to them and they'll fix it free of charge.

All this lends more to the construction quality and overall durability of the phone. I don't mind that it's difficult to tear down. My only concern would be when it's time to replace the battery... and even then, I would be more concerned about the person behind the counter... the person who actually performs the physical replacement.
