The Hyundai Veloster N DCT is the Quickest Accelerating FWD Production Car Ever! - Two Takes

Hyundai impressed us so much with their first crack at the Veloster N hot hatch, that both Zack and Matt were part of the Road & Track test that declared it the magazine's "Performance Car of the Year." Offering a stunning array of performance-oriented technology at reasonably entry level prices, the Veloster N has now been updated with the availability of a $1500 dual-clutch gearbox, developed entirely in house. The gearbox changes the weight distribution, so the suspension's been retuned, and the car gets new seats for 2021, but what's the best hot hatch on sale like with an auto? Turns out, very, very good!

Hyundai of North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

The give and take between Matt and Zack is getting a lot better. More of them feeding off one another rather than Matt just talking at Zack.

I bought a Veloster N 6MT in 2020 and it's a riot. Love that little car.

you have Albert Biermann to thank for this car driving better than latest BMWs

Whatever filter/post effect you put on the chase/follow shots made me think I was having a stroke.

Hyundai went from a regular, ordinary auto maker i didn't give a damn about to one of the last enthusiast related heroes in like four years... this is insane!

As a tall guy driving a 5-door hatchback, I have my seat all the way to the back and very rarely have a passenger behind the driver seat, the Veloster door setup seems perfect for me. Assymetrical door configuration is not an issue even aesthetically IMO, since you never see both sides of the car at the same time. An interesting looking car and apparently very fun to drive. Nice video, Two Takes format seems to be getting better and better.

This car is amazing to drive it’s hard to explain. The adjustable launch control the tightness, the rear end lightness. The low end boost and ALS. The tunes and mods from Tork for this car make it even more awesome.

For daily driving, all of N owners set custom mode to N mode with soft suspension and soft steering. The stiffest steering is really firm, really only great for the track.

I’m an N guy! Was with Hyundai when they introduced the Veloster. Was very excited until it
Flopped in the sales department. Bought my wife an Elantra Limited. It has Ben a perfect little car. Just made the final payment in January. Then they put the Veloster on the Elantra platform and Hired Albert Bierman! Great job Hyundai!!! Looking forward to many more years as a Hyundai owner. I’m retired from car sales after 20 years but still a fan. Sold high end luxury cars for the 1st 15 years them Hyundai for the next 5 years. Love em!

Seeing how good and dynamic this vehicle is really gives me hope for them to make a new Genesis Coupe with the twin turbo v6 from the Stinger GT!

Now can a dealership in my city PLEASE get a DCT Veloster N in stock!? I have been wanting to test drive one since late last year. This is the perfect combination of a hot hatch from everything I've watched/read, and the 10 year warranty is enough to keep my Hyundai/Kia group recall worries at bay.

I find myself split on this car a bit. My 2018 GTI doesn’t have an LSD so it is being replaced. Initially I thought the Veloster N was a slam dunk, but I’m not quite so sure after shopping. I can get a GTI at a discount but the dealer experience with Hyundai hasn’t been promising as the supply is short and prices at MSRP or higher. I find myself wrestling with saving $5, 000 that I can spend on making the suspension what I want via modest items like Koni shocks, a rear swaybar, etc. Maybe I’m spoiled after several years in the GTI. Kudos to Hyundai and Biermann as they are kicking some serious ass.

is the car to car rolling shots flipping between greyscale and color a camera issue or a youtube/editing software hated the footage issue?

I own a 2020 Veloster N so I’m a bit biased, but the car is so fun to drive and absolutely a steal for what your getting for the money. I’m sad my year didn’t get the new seats and new MMI. The slightly older MMI is perfectly fine though. No issues and it still feels new. The seats is the older ones are just ok. The new seats look so much better though. I don’t think you can swap them in either. It’s my weekend car as I drive a work truck throughout the week. It does have little start up/cold start issues sometimes. I’m not sure if they have worked them out in the newer years but it’s not really a big deal. The difference between the “comfort” drive mode and the most aggressive “N” mode is shocking. It really does feel like 2 different cars. Of course once you find your custom settings that works for you, that’s pretty much all you use. Unless ripping it at a track or driving your parents around.
