Learn to Play a Reggae Beat for Acoustic Guitar - Fingerstyle Tutorial w/ tabs

In this video I show you how to play the drums, bass, and guitar parts of a reggae rhythm for acoustic guitar. You can apply this rhythmic pattern to so many songs in 4/4 time and just about any reggae song - in this video we use the chords for Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff” as our template, which was recorded in the key of G minor. The use of barre chords turns out to be a *good* thing here because it allows us to achieve the staccato 8th notes that are so essential to reggae by simply relaxing our hand. We will play block chords on the treble strings with fingers a-m-i between each beat, with the thumb we'll play the bass notes on the 1st and 3rd beats, and on beats 2 and 4 we'll slap the bass strings to get a snare drum "backbeat".

In this free workshop I'm going to show you:
-The 3 secret (but easy) concepts that most guitarists *don’t* know about.
-The 3 right hand techniques you need to know to learn and enjoy the nylon string guitar.
-How to excel on nylon string in only minutes a day, instead of the endless hours most people think it takes.
-A targeted exercise I have developed to quickly work on over 90% of the right hand techniques *we ever use* in only a few short minutes!

…And you’ll get my 15-page “Nylon String Quick Start Guide” outlining all the right hand essentials.

God damn your teaching style is just so inspiring to me.
Teaching concepts and ingredients for the song instead of the finished product.

When you played the bass notes staccato, it sounded like The Doors Whiskey a go go.

Nice video. Learned the rhythm with the slapping that I never did before!, Thank you for that.. it is a bit confusing though..why show the Eb on the 3rd fret and Dm 1st position and never incorporate these chords in these positions in the tutorial? Also, for those not playing bar chords, you could just capo the 3rd fret and alternate the bass lines. You don’t really get that reggae tight beat if you let the 3 strings ring out but it is an option. Thanks again. Hope you answer my ?

It’s confusing though, ….the versus are Eb, Dm, Gm?
The beginning two chords are Gm, Cm ? Why so difficult? Am I missing something?
