Rise of the Dread Moon Reveals & Preorders Live in Some Areas | HeroQuest News

Always Board Never Boring is back with another HeroQuest update. Several online stores, including Hasbro Pulse, have now listed HeroQuest: Rise of the Dread Moon for preorder, and we have a lot more images of the contents, including all of the miniatures. In this video, ABNB goes through all the contents, talks about what he likes and doesn't like, and speculates on the things we still don't know about.

Please note, in the video ABNB refers to Rise of the Dread Moon as Avalon Hill's first all-new retail expansion for HeroQuest. Because someone is bound to point out the Rogue Heir expansion, he specifically meant "all-new quest expansion." Other new quests were made available during the HeroQuest crowdfunding campaign, but as of yet those have not been made available at retail, so Dread Moon is Avalon Hill's first crack at a large expansion with a lot of new content that we have never seen before. That makes it an exciting release.

It reads "HeroQuest" on the box, so it's already an expansion I need. It could be two elven toilets in a box that costs $3, and I'd still need it.

Thanks for the heads up I have pre ordered mine now. Might get to play Heroquest one day, but its just nice to know I have it all on the shelf, for the winter nights.

I had a thought last night while discussing these new images. The product development process is pretty long. It's feasible that RotDM was under development during the release of the Commander of the Guardian Knights. Perhaps during initial production, Sir Ragnar was going to be included in the box. After the backlash over the Guardian Knight exclusivity, they decided to change Sir Ragnar to playable Knight instead. It's possible at that point in development it was too late to add another mini, but might not have been too late to add cards, change cards, and wording in the Quest Book. Maybe that's why we have all the conept art for Ragnar, but no mini to show for it.

So what does this mean for the Ogre Horde and Wizards of Morcar? Hopefully they'll be getting an updated reprint at some point.

Great review dude and certainly got me excited. For me and most the prospect of new content is a safe bet regardless of how well they do it, because it continues to stir the community and our own ideas just like the OG has all these years😊

Oh, I hope they update the app as well. Its lacking an "undo"-button, and the option to manually place enemies (it happens I do misstakes, and it would be nice to both undo, and also have the option to just kill and replace an enemy)

On the box cover Sir Ragnar and the Knight are touching shield while both appear to be in the same fighting position. Much like a mirror image of the same person. May be the same person.

The company should have you on board to provide extra creative direction and rules clarification! If the statues furniture are to scale with the other minis, I wonder how many people will cut the figures off in favor of minis over furniture. Pretty sure I will.

This is incredible b/c this is the FIRST BRAND NEW HeroQuest expansion!! I think Avalon Hill is hitting a HOME RUN with the Heroquest re-release!

The sun and moon tokens, along with the last sentence of the box "Zargon's forces grow ever stronger with the rise of the Dread Moon" makes me suspect they will be used as a difficulty gauge. Maybe the 1st quest the game starts with 3 or 4 suns, and as events unfold and the players don't make the right decisions or are too slow, the game unfolds, the more dread moon tokens at the beginning of the quest determines how many specters appear in that quest, or the power level of the other translucent mini. End of each quest figure out what the +/- is of the dread moon for the start of the next quest.

So, even if it doesnt live up to my/our expectations, i can see this as a new take on the classic adventure kit (which wasnt very exciting). New monsters, minis and cards. Some specialized furniture, tokens/overlay and apparently a bunch of quests. Lots of stuff to make exciting homebrew adventures.
If someone knows about a fancy new itteration of the old card creator, that would a blast.. we need more skill cards and special opponents.

This will still be FANtastic... An original in the making of a 30 year wait time will be worth it. Plus translucent new characters and, and, and introducing crafting into the world. Outstanding!!!!. Moon and sun tokens, this will be interesting.. Pre-order secured and waiting to quest on.

Woo is about time! If those hired elves are nothing more than mercenaries then i Might just write them in as antiheroes with a possible redemption arc if i see the opportunity. Love throwing in my own surprises in quests.
