At 2:22 could we not factor out a three by writing 1 as 1/3 or would that break some assumption we have made?

You can easily prove that using unique factorisation theorem. Assume 3 does not divide m then 3 does not divide m multiplited by any number that is also not divisible by 3 therefore 3 does not divide m^2 and that's a contradiction.
