What is Zero Point Perspective?!

preview_player
Показать описание
Understanding perspective starts with one-point perspective, where lines recede to a single point. In two-point perspective, two sets of lines vanish to different points, like stepping off a track. Three-point perspective adds lines receding upwards or downwards. By studying orthographic views—front, side, and top—you can visualize objects in 3D. Practice drawing these views to enhance spatial reasoning, preparing you to sketch in one, two, or three-point perspective.

The gobbling pillows got me. I had a standard set of expectations about this video which subsequently met upon clicking on it, but I wasn't expecting _that._

I wish this video existed when I started learning perspective. Rotated objects in two-point perspective were so confusing until I realized every object (and every part of every object) has its own vanishing points. I truly think the names one, two, and three point perspective are more confusing than helpful for beginners. They are misleading unless they're taught correctly, and when you're teaching yourself, you can make many false assumptions just from the names alone. So, thank you for covering rotated objects, it's such a fundamental piece of properly understanding perspective. Great video, Marshall!

never been so glad i took technical graphics in school and have drawn and desighned hundreds of orthographic projections because i can only imagine how confused I would be otherwise

The singing at the end of each lesson just made my day much better.

1:15 that's called several 2-point systems.
Also, the zero-point perspective used by most architects and engineers is axonometry. I'm writing this not to nitpick, but in case anyone wants to do further research. So you know what to google. If anyone is masochistic enough to dive DEEP into this world, studying Descriptive Geometry is the way to go.
Oh, and 2 views is actually enough if you indicate non-visible points and lines, and label them correctly. Look up Monge's projection technique.

Marshall really has a talent for breaking down such a complex subject in a simple way. Thank you for including these these exercises! Very practical. I'm definitely looking to get the premium course once I get the chance.

Watching this reminds me of waking up early to catch my favorite cartoon on tv when I was 6! Marshall's voice is perfect for cartoon narration.

Next video is: what's a negative point perspective?

worth noting that, if you wanna get technical, zero point perspective is not actually a real thing! it's an isometric/axonometric *projection*. perspective is a completely separate type of projection with at least one vanishing point.

We do this all the time in architecture mechanical drafting. And you can actually measure to draw points. Its a more “logical” method of art

I wasn't expecting to be told about perspective by space ghost. Cool!

This is the type of video i'd find 8 years ago and not understand a single thing but still watched it because was entertaining

Excellent video. Drafting and art were some of the most useful classes I took in high school. They helped open my mind to look at the world in new perspectives, pun intended. It’s fun looking at scenes and objects, and imagining them in different views and exploding the pieces. I’m amazed at how useful this skill is in everyday life.

THIS IS THE ONE I've been waiting for! Marshall alluded to it last time!

That's a very fun and creative way to teach the subject. I'm very impressed.

Unfortunately or fortunately I've had an overdose of perspective studying architecture... and engineering before that.
Possibly won't sign for the premium but can highly recommend from free videos you're posting.

Thank you Marshal
And good luck

Ps.
We've never looked at orthis as a form of perspective. Neither the axonometric views. It's very peculiar to think this way.

Yet, once we progress to perspective. Teachers would point out the vanishing point of perspective view is moved to infinity (infinitely far away) in axonometry - which makes all rules and techniques transferable. Same for ortho - it's a one point perspective with vanishing point few light years away from us
;)

You're teaching perspective first. Then progress to axo- and ortho- presenting them as other forms of perspective.
It's interesting and odd at the same time.

Everybody wants to be a concept artist, nobody wants to learn how to make designs that are actually useful for 3D and VFX artists.

Marshal Vandruff sounds like he's about to explain how Jurrasic Park was created (by sourcing DNA from an amber petrified mosquito) to soon-to-be T-Rex-Lunchables.
