There are various reasons why I prefer stand on mowers over sit down riding zero turns. The main reasons can be found in this video. #lawncare #landscaping #stripelife

Rebuttal:

-A sit down mower gives the legs a break since you are walking with a trimmer and blower quite a bit.

-A sit down mower allows you to feather the deck a lot easier when going over bumps and such so you don’t scalp

-A sit down mower can handle hills far better

-A sit down mower actually tears up the turf LESS when doing maneuvers because the engine weight is over the wheels. On a stander the drive wheels don’t have much weight over them so they spin out far easier and tear up the grass.

-although it’s less convenient on a sit-down, you can still blow down pavement from the mower. Either use a handheld blower with one hand, or use a backpack. You wear but let it rest on top of the seat.

I’ve used both and kind of hate the standers. However I don’t begrudge people their opinions and glad you’re liking them!

I use a gravely 44” zero turn rider, I can’t “stand” the stand-on mowers but to each their own.

Thanks for sharing this, great info

Correct on everything. Still I only use sit down bc when you get older it’s absolutely easier to sit than to stand all day long.

I use a ferris z2 stander daily and I 100% agree with every point you made

I got a stand on because I messed my back up and its been a life saver. Its so much more comfortable to mow with.

It won’t go the places my walk behind will….

New subscriber. I subscribed for the stripes. Lol Started watching your other videos and as a “lawn dude” myself there are something’s I totally disagree with you on but this one, I can’t argue with. Standers all day everyday.

I used a stander for a couple days when one of our sit down machines was down and the dealer loaned us a stander for the time being. I really liked having the elevated view of the deck, and it was definitely fun and different to use. Both have their pros and cons, but I’d still prefer a sit down for the most part. But I’d love to have a stand on for those properties that are too big for a walk behind, but too small for a big commercial rider.

I use to cut commercially with a sit down. Hearing you on this comparison I have to agree. Just wish I I thought about it then.

I totally Agree- Stand On mower is the way to go for all the reasons you mentioned and then some ..!! But like the guy said below .. to each their own .. he prefers sit down .. and who am I to tell anyone what’s better for them, , but I’m certainly in agreement that for me Stand On is by far the way to go ..!! Any amount of time on a Stand-On and I believe most would agree again for all the reasons you mentioned..!! Again my opinion- they’re so much more fun too drive .. every time I get on the thing it’s a blast .. Exmark Vantage 52” mulching mower and JD 652R MOD .. 2 great Stand-On Mowers ..!! Great video .. thanks ..!! 💥

I have a Wright Stander B 52'' and a Exmark Lazer Z 60'' (sitter). Overall, like my stander. The footprint of it is way smaller, nimble and light. Standing takes way less of a beating on your back.(unless your running a Ferris sitter with 300 lbs of coil over shocks) Sitters have some big plusses including deck feathering, able to hug hills and overall more stable maneuverability. Getting at your hydros, fluids and maintenance items are generally much easier on standers which holds a lot of value to me. They both have different/unique applications. End of the day, run what makes you happiest!

I'm a bit "older", and I prefer a rider. With a suspension seat. That seat is a game changer. I admit that the stand ons would be better when you have to get off and on a bunch, but for me, riding wins.

My lawn is on the fringe of being too large for me to mow without a break, it’s roughly 1/3 of an acre Ranch/Rambler style city lot built in the 1950s and I can hit it with my walk behind Toro in about an hour and a half, 2 hours if I take a brief rest before hitting the backyard. (Backyard is Buffalo, front is Bermuda, so I never do both on the same day unless my schedule rotation overlaps)

I’m confident that a standing mower would make that like an hour shorter, but at my age (29) I tend to enjoy the work/energy it takes to do that every few days during warm season. It might be a different story in a decade or two though, so I’m just enjoying it while I can.

All valid points, even why you might want a sit down. I'd summarize it this way: if your body can handle a stander, then it is the better platform.

Spartan offers an add on feature, for one of their stand on models, that attaches a seat for long mowing needs.

You couldn’t of said it better. Our lawn part of our business is small (2 days a week) any who last yr. Converted to only sit down. Huge mistake for my personally. Easy on, easy off, is completely underrated.
