I’m glad your still doing this Jody I hope you know this is not a thankless Channel. I’m glad you’re posting regularly again if not for your info over the last 10 years When I started welding I wouldn’t be the welder I am today. Tho I gave up on welding as a career the mechanical aptitude it provided me was invaluable and I thank you for your time and information. The terrible jobs I had welding gave me a lifetimes worth of useful knowledge and helped pull me and my family out of poverty and secure a good career. Always a pleasure to see a real informative creator on the platform.

Your videos of the puddle are so amazing. You’ve got a good setup and it helps to see it way better than any videos I’ve seen. Thanks!

I’m doing an assignment in school with 7018 1G open root, 3/32 gap, 1/16 landing. Can’t find any videos on it anywhere.

first, let me start by saying how much you have done for the average tradesman hobbyist welder is awesome thankyou so much for the informative content and all the work you have put in. i have a question I have always wondered what is how to calculate the necessary amount of weld on a joint say for roll cage intersections of which i know there are infinite amounts but how to tell if you have at least met the minimum spe for nominal strength in a single weld joint for instance a 90 deg tube to another intersecting it. say 1/8 inch wall, for its profile would it be for the legs of the weld where they flow into the other tube to be the same as the wall thickness or slightly more than the wall thickness. may be a little confusing but I am curious if there is a formula for figuring the minimum required width of the weld bead both height and width? a guy always wonders if it is substantial enough to take the proper load rating of the tube. you see guys welding chromoly roll cages and their weld beads are incredibly small most of the time which makes one think he is putting excessive heat and weld beads on a structure that doesn't need to be there? thanks again you are the best and have really gotten me through a lot of situations where I might not have figured out a solution for that certain predicament, thank you again.

Jody sir, how can I practice pipe welding without pipes?

Biggest pain to me has been that last cap pass on that top edge. Seems like it wants to sag resulting in slight undercut despite slight up and d down osolation with slight pause on the upper zig of the zag. Should i run cooler?

Didn't seem like he was getting very good penetration on the side walls. He was more: filling the valley and the puddle was just kissing the sidewalls-- but he didn't seem to really burn into the sides-- until that final pass near the top edge. IDK, I like to really dig into the side wall myself, and make sure it adheres.
