Asus TUF Z790 BTF Gaming Wifi Review - much more than just good looks

Prawn here with my in-depth review of the Asus TUF Z790 BTF Gaming Wifi motherboard. This is an interesting looking rear connect motherboard that has some really nice specs including WiFi 7, fast USB ports, multiple gen 4 NVMe ports and more besides. The most appealing feature is no doubt the rear connect design, which allows you to mount in capable cases with a really clean build, but it's not the only thing this motherboard has going for it.

I've used this in a recent build inside the Corsair 6500x and the results speak for themself. Related videos:

The problem isn't BIOS related. There are production defects (via oxidation) actually on the CPU dies that were discovered in 2023. They are using BIOS updates to try to hide this by dropping voltages.

Thanks for another informative video, Prawn. I have this motherboard and btf gpu in my personal rig with a Corssir 6500x and I'm really enjoying it so far. And this video helped me learn more about the features and watchouts. It looks great without cables and runs fantastic with my i5-13600k. Building with a btf motherboard is so much easier and I especially like the btf gpu as you don't have a bit of gpu sag.

Cpu fan is at the front since you really cant hide that wire at the back. Much better to be in front as its hidden by the tower already. A much cleaner look rather than the tower fan wires looping to the back.

4:42 i saw a video feature where they did test and there is a possibility, may be slight but the more NVMe used is the slower the possibility of the PCIe slots. I will be using those PCIe slots so, I am considering internal SSDs for games and other work related stuff.... will see.

3:04 this is what i was waiting for. you had said "you can ditch your standard PCIE cables", not correct, you still have to connect it at the back of the Mobo.

3:35 i dont know, maybe CPU fan cables arent long enough, doubt that, dunno. If RGB is at the back then why the fan at the front, the cables should be same length.

Could I recreate this build with a B650M motherboard and an AMD chip? I understand I wouldn't be able to use the power supply from the motherboard in this case, due to compatibility issues. The Intel thing is making me hesitant to purchase it at the moment.

also so for the CPU_fan header on the front is probably one of the requirement and standardization for any Intel based motherboard, since intel used to (and still does in boxed variants) ship a factory 1x120mm fan with their CPU's and that cable on the fan is really short.

Again I might be tottaly missing the mark, but this seemed like a really common and logical stand on why exactly it's located where it is, if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.

im almost taking its safer to build a pc right now with a 12gen cpu until they fix all the overheating issues with 13 & 14?

0:19 can you explain, maybe you have in another video why you have the radiator hose at the bottom, below the pump? i am seeing too many different things about what is the most appropriate orientation for radiator installation, and actually confused now.

What's your favourite case for zero cable project builds? I know like asus tuf, msi project zero are like doing zero cables with the motherboards. That being said, the cases are a bit strict, that's why I want to know what's your favourite case for this style of build?

sometimes when i turn my pc on it boots normally i see msi logo but after that the display goes black like monitor is completely turned off but monitor remains on actually after that i fix it by unplugging and plugging back montior then i get display or i have to unplug dp cable from gpu or monitor and then plug again that also fixes the issue do u know what might be the problem?

Nice motherboard and all that, but surely no-one is building high end Intel systems at the moment what with the CPU suicide issues?

Am I the only one? BTF doesn't appeal to me at all. The power blade looks intriguing - maybe a tad bit of free antisag.
