Apple Podcasts Premium to Compete With Spotify

Spotify has podcasts for free even on mobile, you can just click and play for free. But really Podcasts premium should be in Apple Music, instead of having a separate app for music and a separate one for podcasts. If people have Apple HomePods, this would be a hit, but if you don't have an Apple HomePod, and to be honest, it's just a way to make money. If an apple music subscription had podcasts as well, I think it would work.

I've been a Spotify Premium member since 2013 and I have all of my music playlists set up through Spotify. Also, Spotify has Joe Rogan, so I'm staying.
I pay $5/month for Spotify and Hulu together as a student. Can't beat that. 🙌

It will just be a premium tier option within the already awesome and free Podcasts App on Apple devices.
There are lots of apps just sitting there on people’s Apple devices that get forgotten.
Once you click one open, you then realise there’s a whole little universe in there that’s the equivalent of an app you download thats got a whole single company running it.
I just clicked on the Podcasts app tonight and I can’t believe it’s just there completely free.
Plus they don’t have funky names, they are just called what they are like TV, Movies, Books, News, Podcasts. It’s all just there.
I wish they’d have bought YouTube back in the day or make their own now. Although YouTube is amazing and I’ve got that sweet premium now (a little expensive though, but once you go advfree it’s hard to go back).

Yeah, it won't be a separate App. They'll just integrate the subscription model as part of the current podcast App. You'll probably just find a new tab/section in the app with featured podcasts. The best example of this would be to check out the Apple TV App where they have a watch now section with mixed content and a dedicated Apple TV originals section where there is only the subscription based content. Same would roll out on the Podcast app most likely

I’m dead ass about too listen to Pandora for music and radio/YouTube for podcast related content. All this subscription nonsense is getting out of hand.

Does apple not own the rights to the term “Podcast”? I’ve always found it weird that they literally coined the term, or at least popularized it (from iPod) but never really seemed to pay attention to the podcast market as much as everyone else. Now everything is a Podcast. Youtubers are calling their audio-only uploads Podcasts lol How are you late to your own game?

Everyone has free podcasts. We don't care about exclusive podcasts... There are plenty of other podcasts to replace them
