Boneworks is the BEST VR Game Ever Created (so far)

Hello, today I want to do a deep full dive analysis about my personal favorite and (in my opinion) in the best VR game ever made. My list of best VR games look something like: Half Life Alyx, Lone Echo (1, 2, and echo arena), walking dead saints and sinners etc, but the TOP of my list is certainly BONEWORKS by developer Stress Level Zero.

The system created in boneworks is unlike any game out there. It's something really special. I'm really hoping Stress Level Zero's next game is going to be available for more systems so that more people can see what I'm talking about here. Even though the game has been out for two years now, it holds up better than most.. ESPECIALLY with mods. OH, and the soundtrack is a masterpiece.

Boneworks has set the bar so high for a lot of vr games that after playing it, most other vr games seem like knockoffs

Boneworks soundtrack is what made it for me. That feeling of being alone in a computer simulation. Gave an eerie vibe and that’s what makes it so good

Ah yes, Boneworks. A VR game where you can throw an elbow hit and it connects, even without FBT.

SL0 could license their engine out and maybe it would allow for some really epic IP to be created

the first time i lifted myself onto a roof with an axe and was able to skip a large portion of a building level (the barn) i knew what this game was. It's legitimately one of the coolest VR experiences that i've ever had.

Games like Zentih are meaningless to me thanks to Boneworks. Empty interactions in a physics-less world just feels like such a cheap experience now.

Boneworks is the only game that makes me feel like a person in vr. That's what makes it great. Can't wait for their next game.

Edit: bonelab is just ok. Possibly worse.

i actually found out about Boneworks because of you almost a year ago. bought it, went in blind, had the best VR experience ive ever had. and modding it makes it so much better.

Thanks for your insight, Thrill!
As a VR developer, I love hearing your perspective and helps me consider new perspectives for designing in the future.

Half life Alyx was like that for me. It was the entire reason I even bought an Index. The entire game was an experience like i've never had that completely blew my mind.

i’d love to hear an in depth analysis as well as any other vr games that are favorites of yours (and why)!

I love the “crouching and walking on toes” system in boneworks, seems like every vr game needs it

The climbing millions of stairs part reminds me of Ghost Busters on Nintendo. Anyone who knows, knows!

Thank you so much for making this video. I feel like so many people just dont talk about Boneworks, even though its one of, if not the most revolutionary VR game on the market to date in my opinion. (also my favourite) And yeah i undestand that many people have problems with motion sickness and the story, and graphics arent great but still.

What I love about boneworks is the immersion. Like the physical crouching and getting up (then jump button) is a jump. Or that your head has an actual form so you can bump your head.

God that campaign was an unforgettable experience the first time going through.

Honestly playing boneworks for the first time made me feel like a little kid again. Everything was so cool and I was so happy my hands didn't pass through walls the, how good the level design was and how everything would just make me think "Hey that's pretty cool". I just loved the way it is not nearly as linear as other games are, and that there are secrets and hidden spaces you can find scattered across every single level. For me, My first time playing it was such a fantastic experience. I did many full playthroughs to try and experience it the way I did the first time, but unfortunately it just doesn't hit the way it did the second time around. The sandboxes and arena modes are also a lot of fun. But something else about this game that I love so much is the soundtrack. Every single track always felt appropriate in the moment and they all (well most of them) have the same little tune from the main theme integrated somehow. People who have played the game all the way through 1-2 times have probably noticed. I like the lore and I could understand the way the story was going as I kept playing, but the way it ties into other games was pretty confusing but after a while, I figured it out. I agree this is the best VR game yet. Can't wait for project 4.

My only regret from getting into VR was that my first games were Boneworks and halflife Alex. Nothing has come close to those games since they're releases aside from lone echo 1, 2, and Blade and Sorcery.
