Dad, why do you put so much emphasis on Romans 4:5?

EPISODE #183: Ted asks about why Rod speaks of Romans 4:5 so much. Rod talks about our sinful nature, and the imputation of Christ’s righteousness to the wicked, the mystery of the Gospel going ‘around self’ & being gifted anyway, and how God works, contrary to our fallen sense of fairness.

Produced by: Rick Ritchie

The issue isn't the laborers at all, but the goodness of the Master. THAT is precisely the issue of us looking at the wrong issue. Praise God He saves sinners. HE SAVES!

Thanks for this episode Dr. Rod and Ted! It is just like the parable Jesus said about the worker who came last to work got the same salary as the first one who came in the morning. The employer was considered unjust and unfair.

Psalm 1 made me understand what’s the difference among the wicked, the sinner and the mockers. The bottom been the worst of them all. The wicked believes that what is bad is in fact good so when he comes to know what is actually good that is what is going to be his new reality while the sinner knowing good and evil he does what is bad anyway.

Because it’s one of the few verses of Scripture that could be misconstrued as teaching your medieval heresies about justification.

What is the gospel? How do all those who've never heard the gospel get to heaven? Of course! Which scriptures?

Rom 4:5 does not exclude the interior regeneration of grace caused by the Spirit accompanied by faith. God crediting righteousness presumes regeneration and the other virtues of hope (Rom 4:18) and love (Rom 5:5). Typically the Lutheran reading of Rom 4:1-25 ignores Abraham's regeneration accompanying faith, hope and love and asserts an alien righteousness imputed to the sinner when an alien righteousness is presumed by the Lutheran reader, not found anywhere in the NT.

Lutheran exegesis of Rom 4:1-25 is typically very shallow.

But there were two tax men who were saved in the NT. Matthew and Zacheis.
