Thank you for another great clear, concise video! That makes me wonder ... all the beautiful old homes we have and all the apartment blocks in Albany and Springfield and those places had tons of wood casing and trim (and back porches in the case of the apartment blocks). All they used to do with the wood was rub them down with oil, decade after decade (making them perfect for fire!). Then paint became available for the DIY-er in, I don't know when, but then everyone painted over their woodwork. How do you think that was possible? Probably because the paints were oil-based?
I was recently in a place with a very large, custom kitchen from the 1920's. All the cabinets had been painted over in a high gloss oil paint, tough as nails. Then, Lord knows when or why, someone painted over it with water-base, maybe in the 70's or 80's, telling by the color. All the paint can be pulled off in huge strips. From the back of the paint it looks like there was no primer. Form the sheen on the oil paint under it, it doesn't even look like there was the slightest roughing. What a mess.

Does the original goo gone leave behind any residue? I have that but not dawn. Dawn is cheap though so if I still should go grab a bottle of it I can.

This is the exact information I needed; thank you.

Thanks for that info, I almost cleaned my mom's old hutch with Murphy's soap, prior to painting. I'll use Dawn soap instead. I'm just painting the cabinet base but not the drawers for an updated look. Would an interior Behr's paint with primer in a satin finish be good for furniture?

Was just thinking about that. Read my mind. Was thinking about using murphys but thought it oiks them up so might work against paint adhering. Not sure when im painting them but they need it.

I didn't find this to be true. I purchased a fixer upper and the cabinets and handles were so sticky and gunky, even Dawn couldn't cut it.

Isn't Scrub Daddy too rough to the surface of the cabinets so that the poly or even stain layer can be removed?

What are you cleaning your cabinets with?

Any cleaner with oil in it will leave a residue attracting more dirt and grease.

Yall don’t understand how wood works. Wood needs oil at some point because it hydrates the wood making it look good( unless you sealed the wood with poly which I doubt many do)
