Is Overwatch 2 Worth The Wait?

Following the Overwatch 2 Trailer and Gameplay we got to see at BlizzCon, many of us started debating whether or not it is worth buying. Of course, whether or not Overwatch 2 is worth it isn't going to be clear until it's out, but a lot of people's reaction in 2021 was that, as a glorified "DLC", it wouldn't be worth the wait, let alone the price of admission.

Playing Overwatch in 2021 is a fairly painful experience seeing as the game is on life support and suffering from many issues that are left unattended or cared for. But considering the minor PvP updates that come with the sequel, getting into Overwatch right now as a new player might not be the worst idea.

Is Overwatch Worth it in 2021? And will Overwatch 2 be a worthy sequel? Well.. Let's discuss.

It certainly *looks* incredibly high quality and ambitious, but as we've seen before, looks can be deceiving.

Cliff isn't wrong, they could have supported the first game properly, while making the second one. They just didn't want. They also could have done seperate patches for console so that it isn't an unbalanced mess, but they didn't want to. They are lucky their game is fun to play, because their attitude toward the people who play it sucks.

I think you said meaningful things and that's great to see someone else being critical toward Blizzard and the overwatch team.
Too many players think it's okay for Blizzard to just let OW die to make ow2 better and/or faster. I don't have that opinion. I think there were ways Blizzard could have made things better.
At the end of the day, OW2 is only a marketing thing. Stuff like removing 2CP or adding tank passive could be done right now to fix things. But they're just padding ow2 to make it look like ow2 is more than just an overpriced DLC.

I am so happy that I didn't start in like 2016 and didn't have to suffer through goats and those metas, only half a year in and love ow so I'll def hang around for ow2

"Worth the wait" is kind of a weird question to ask right now. Unless they're showing us old progress in the Blizzcon, we're minimum 2 years away from a release date to Overwatch 2, if that.
Because of just how long the wait is, if the question is it worth it to wait for OW2 rather than get into OW1 now, the answer is no.

I spend 4 years playing overwatch but after master i stopped playing i would say 2 years of waste

Everybody wants more content for Overwatch but at least the team is working on something unlike valve who just threw the game away and left it to the community no content update in 3 years and 99% of the cosmetics are community made

I can't wait for OW2, it's gonna be so good. I think they SHOULD (probably not going to happen but eh who knows) give us at least a few little things to keep us going on OW1 though. Probably not something as big as a new character, although the teases would suggest maybe, but something like a map or two in normal modes that people actually play and not just skirmish in, looking at you kanezaka. I'd love some tournaments, or something of that ilk, probably a few more 'challenges' (although they're basically just getting 9 wins). I hope they give us a new cinematic this year too.

Obviously this is all what I'd like to happen, knowing Blizzard we'd get nothing until OW2 comes out. Who knows. Great video though!

Blizzard gave us WAYYYY more content for so many years. Just for 40 bucks AT MOST.

I think they're allowed to work on a sequel by now.

And they're not even charging people who already have the first game, to play the pvp of the second one.

New people should absolutely come but the matchmaking environment is broken because of the smurfing situation but it's every match especially if you're new. If you want to have the most fun though bring friends.

Just. Give. Us. One. Hero. At. Least. We haven't gotten a new hero in What's coming up to be a year blizzard is going to loose there player base because balance changes is not an excuse for new content, new heros are the things that keep players coming back. Respawn (My favorite gaming company by far) like you said, has mid season updates with garenteed balance changes and maybe even a new item, and a new UNIQUE legend with Map changes every couple months. Every legend is completely different and cool in there own right, and I love playing all of them. That's not the case for overwatch at all, the same characters get boring to play overtime because it turns into a rinse and repeat full of if they have this character, I go this, and repetitive content. Blizzard in my opinion should cut the crap and not put all there eggs in one basket. I would release sojourn if I were them.

Since they announced they'd focus on ow2, I've been saying they could work on both ow1 and ow2 if they just hired more people. I mean, back then ow1 had a team of 100 people while fortnite had a team of 700!! If blizzard gave as many resources to the ow dev team as riot gave to fortnite, ow2 would definitely be releasing this year.
But there's no reason in getting angry at what could've been. I just hope ow2 isn't a disappointment when it comes out.

I don't even know why I keep playing overwatch anymore, at first it was to get better and play in the same ranks as my friends, and i did. But now I stop talking to those friends and sometimes I wonder why do I keep investing or wasting so much time in the game. I started to play Arcade mostly and i have more fun than playing comp.

"Should you wait for OW2 or get into OW now?" If you have the money, JUST GET INTO OW NOW. It's that simple. Why on earth would you postpone something like that?

I've wanted to play OW ever since it came out, but I never had the finances to get a computer that could run it, so I was only able to start last September when I finally was able to. I've been bombarded with "Why would you get OW now when OW2 is just about to come out?" so much that it's getting annoying. The answer is simple: I wanna play it NOW, not a year later. No matter how awesome OW2 ends up being, I would've absolutely hated myself if I didn't start playing OW as soon as I was able to.
